New pain in arthritic knee

I hope somebody can relate to my pain. I was doing some exercise this morning and it involved putting support on one of the knees. I have got arthritis in both knees and they both crackle and crunch when I walk or go upstairs or down. Usually they are no problem, but this morning my left knee became very painful when I put weight on it. I could feel the bone ends although it does not look deformed & very sensitive to the touch, the pain feels like pins as if the bones in my knee have shattered into bits, it is not swollen and I can still walk. At this point I do not know whether to go and see GP or wait and see what happens. This is all new to me, I hope I can make myself understand what I am trying to write. It is just the knee cap feels there are little bits of bones underneath and the sensation is burning. I seem to be in th GP's surgery every month. Hope somebody can help. Thanks

Have absolutely no scruples in visiting the doc, much better for him to see your knee when it is playing up. Experiment with ice and heat to find which one helps.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi,
I have had knee problems lately in my TKR and I also get a burning sensation. I was told it is the ligaments. I am starting physio on on Thurs.
    Go to see your Dr.

Mine crack and crunch all the time. (My knees have both PA and OA.) It is quite a feeling when I rest my hands on my kneecaps and bend the joints, it's as though they are full of small gravel and I can feel it shifting under my hand. My husband can hear me going up the stairs it's that loud! Try to ease up on the weight-bearing exercises, perhaps switch to swimming instead. DD

    Marie

you have to go to the docs lass you really do

and l agree with DD maybe you ought to do a bit less of the type of exercise which needs you to put weight on that knee. l go swimming as much as possible...don't know if that's an option??

Will cross fingers that you get some help

    love

Thanks for all your advice and support. Dreamdaisy, that's how my knee caps feel when I try to rub them, very gritty feeling. I will see how it goes, so far I can walk and are not in a lot of pain more of a discomfort really and it is not swollen. I still cannot weight bear on that knee. It is quite hard to do chores when you cannot kneel but I am trying to squat on both legs instead.

Hi Marie, I also get this feeling in my knees and it is so uncomfortable and like DD says, people can hear me before they see me. I think you should be really careful with the weight bearing exercises as you dont want to do any further damage. I find kneeling really painful and try to avoid it at all costs, I sometimes manage to get down on my knees then realise that I cant get back up on my feet. I would strongly advise you to pop along to your GP, these things shouldnt be ignored and you are better to get checked out. Dont worry about feeling that you go to the doctor too often, thats his job after all. I usually visit my GP when new pains crop up or when things feel different from the usual. Rest your knee whenever you can and take things easy until it feels better. Sending you hugs xx

hiya im new to all these knee problems myself, at the moment i dont have any clicking of my bones.
i have been reading up on arthiritus problems especially of the knee and have read about bone spurs i think they are called? where small parts of bone somehow come away and sit around the knee.
iv never been to the docs as much as i have just lately either, but people are right that is wot they are paid to do.
    good luck donna x

I always thought that bone spurs were extra growth of bone: I have them on both knees, I swear you caould hang a coathanger on them! They are firmly attached, a physio explained to me recently that bone growth is a clumsy attempt by the body to spread the load of a damaged joint. DD

Ditto you guys with the crunching knees... stairs are the worst aren't they?! We could start a knee orchestra ;)

Definitely ease up on anything where you're putting extra strain on the knees, swimming much more preferable :)
