Just came in from hanging washing out, I had my wrist hand supports on as my hands are rather achy today and as I walked back in through back door, I dont even know what I did, but my left thumb felt like it had been bent backward or something as the pain was excruitiating and I had to leave my left hand imobile for a few minutes to recover, it was sharp and I dont think I have had such intense pain on a single movement before, especially as I have no real recollection of exactly what happened. I was not aware of doing anything to cause this...

My main swelling of my hands are MCP joints, base thumb, edge wrists, along the wrists and first half fingers. And this is first time I have had such a sudden pain like that.

Is this common in arthritis?
Take care xxx

Sadly , very common . It irritates me no end that you can suddenly crease up with a new pain and puzzle over whether you did anything to cause it ; usually you haven't ! Jillyb

I went through a phase a bit back when any action like opening door handles or winding the wire round tthe hoover used to cause sudden agonies and l never though l had done anything.....

I do hope that with rest you will feel less pain soon.

Yes I get that a lot too. My right wrist at the moment but the thumb was one of the worst so I do sympathise with you.

I hope it eases off soon for you,

Yes, I'm afraid thst happens to me sometimes too.. Eg a few weeks ago I was just walking through M and S, not carrying anything, when i got a really bad shooting pain through my left wrist. It made me gasp. It felt like my wrist had suddenly broken! It faded after about 10 minutes. hav

Embarrassing isn't it if you make a noise in public because of pain
