Evening all,
I figured with the little cocktail of drugs you lot take you may be able to help me out on this one. I have been taking Naproxen and Omeprazole for over a year now and with a restricted diet I have been getting on fine. On Monday the doc added some cipramil to the mix. I take it first thing in the morning with my breakfast, since a few hours after taking it the first time I have had digestion's and nausea. I know these are both known side effects of the cipramil, so I consulted a pharmasist to see if I could take gaviscon or something. The pharmacist said she couldn't advise me to take anything as I was on Omeprazole, and to give it a week to see if it calms down, if not, go back to see my GP. I can just about manage the days, but waking up at 2am with heartburn and then sleeping upright in a chair is getting a little boring now. Anyone have super insider secrets to try and help me get through the next few days to try and calm things down. I already take peppermint tablets and drink peppermint tea, I have baked myself some nice ginger flapjacks to nibble on too as ginger is supposed to help.

Hi Flowerpot, I also suffer and like you take omeprazole which I find works well for me, but if i run out, my hubby told me about a remedy.
It doesnt last for hours, but it may help to provide some relief, so you get your zzz's.
Put 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda in full glass water and it may sound gross, but its actually not that bad, and this neutralizes the acid.
Also raw carrots are meant to help too
Hope this helps sweety
Let me know and take care xxxx0 -
Brilliant, thanks, I will give that a go before I go to bed, although had read somewhere I shouldn't eat raw veggies, which to be honest I kind of ignore as I grow my own veg and carrots are so sweet and juicy straight out the ground and run under the tap!
Lets see if I can make it past 1:30 before I wake.0 -
The bi-carb will do the trick short term but it does tend to make you gassy, being full of wind can also be uncomfortable and dare i say it noisey.Mig0

Speak to your gp and change the omeprazole. I take lansoprazole and it is much better, I beleive more expensive though, so they prescribe other meds first!!!0

How's things today, flowerpot? If no better I'd speak to your GP. I take Lansoprazole (cousin to Omeprazole) & I know there's some feeling you shouldn't take Gaviscon with it but my doc reckons that, when my stomach's kicking in, better both than oesophagitis. Don't self-prescribe though. We're all different. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks for asking :-)
Well I failed on SennaCharib's suggestion went to mix up my wee cocktail and discovered I only had baking powerder not Bicarb of Soda. Instead I had a mug of Horlicks which claims to contain extra calcium, went to bed propped up on 5 pillows and the pain wasn't as bad. I still woke up at 1:30 I am beginning to think its something else waking me up as its been 1.29, 1.26 and 1.28 when I look at the clock, and I can't believe my body is that accurate!
The nausea has subsided quite a bit today, yoghurt and granola for breakfast, and a ginger flapjack for elevenses and my stomach is still gurgling and churning. See how I get on over the weekend then phone the docs on Monday if I don't feel I am getting anywhere.0 -
Glad things are a wee bit better, but you know there are things the doc can give you for nausea. Some swear by lanzoprazole instead of omeprazole??? AND if yo are on 15mg it could ask be upped??
Mind you looks like you are getting over it on your own
Love

Hi Flowerpot,
If I were you I would get something better than the omprozoles.... I really would and tis worth running it past a gp s you might need different ones.
You can tell i don't rate omeprazole .......
Its horrible to have the indigestion thing and I am afraid I just drink gaviscon.... Mind I have a lot of heart burn cus of the gord and Barret's and well they are why i think you should run it past your gp really.
Hope its a short term thing and your ok now? Cris x0
