Please can anyone help me. About an hour ago I suddenly got very bad pain from costochondritis, I've never had it this bad before, always been able to just take pain relief for it. I t was niggling last night but then went off but tonight it's back with a vengeance. At the moment I have severe pain in the ribs under my right boob and armpit as well as breastbone, the pain is going into my shoulders and neck and my arms feel weak. I've taken painkillers, rubbed anti-inflammatory gel and now using heat pad, but no improvement so far, the pain is so bad it's making me feel sick, I won't be able to sleep like this, does anyone have any suggestions as to what they do for it. Thanks,

Sue x

Owww know exactly how you feel :( all l can suggest is try to relax l know stupid cos its horrible but other than what youve already tried l dont think theres much else :( I try drinking warm water when it plays up a nurse told me too, also watch the positions you sit in etc for what can trigger it off. If you feel it is really bad cant you got to A and E to be checked out or ring NHS direct? You cant be too careful good luck xx

Feeling better this morning, but it's still there so I'll have to be careful. Thanks for the advice about warm water, I'll give it a try.

    Hi Sue,
hope you are feeling a little better today - sorry I can't offer any other advice, but I can sympathise. I've had this around my ribs a few times, sometimes with pleurisy too, so I know how painful it is!
    You take care,
    best wishes,
    Josie

    Hi Sue,

Glad your feeling a bit better and hope that it will go quiet for you for a while. I get it mixed up with some other bits and it doesn't seem to back off much. It makes so many things harder not least breathing eh?! Cris x

Hi Val glad your getting the tablets reviewed. xx

    Hi Sue
Im glad you are feeling a little better, when you are up to it, see if your GP can help with better meds.
Now you rest up for a while.

I suffer from this too and it's pretty awful. I use ice packs when it's particularly bad because I don't find I get any relief from anti-inflam gel. Please do get checked out by your GP, Sue. Whenever you have pain in or around your chest, it's always worth getting seen by a doctor. My flares tend to last for a few weeks and then ease off for several months. I'm not sure how it is for you. Be kind to yourself xx
