Art in nature

Now that September is here, the leaves are beginning to turn beautiful colours. The season of Autumn provides us with some of the most beautiful and intense colours within nature. Woodlands all over the UK are beginning to reveal their amazing colours of red, orange, yellow and gold. For anyone who likes to paint pictures, as I do, it's a wonderful time of the year to observe nature and to be inspired by it.

But you don't necessarily have to paint pictures to create works of art from nature. I love the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who uses leaves, twigs, stones, ice, snow, and anything which nature provides to create his works of art. He photographs his creations as soon as he has finished them because they often don't survive for long. You can see some of his work on this link:

    Joan those pictures were beautiful.

I loved the ice pictures inparticular and the tree roots reminded me of a bread plait.

Thank you I will look at those again.

    Hi Julie

I'm glad that you enjoyed looking at the pictures. The ice ones are spectacular, aren't they? He can only make them at sub-zero temperatures as they would melt otherwise, so it's very cold work. Did you notice that he used his own saliva to stick the icicles together in his Icicle Star? He must have held them together until they froze.

I'm inspired to have a go with some autumn leaves myself, and then to photograph the results. I will post the photos on here if they turn out any good.

Oh dear :!: I decided to try to make a leaf pattern and then photograph it, but discovered that I've lost the camera  I've spent all afternoon searching the house for it without any success. It was last used on Thursday when out with the grandchildren, and I've rung the place we went to, but no-one has handed a camera in.

It looks as though my art work will have to go on hold until I either find the camera or buy a new one

Still not found it, Julie, so I think it's lost. I've given up now, and just hope it might turn up somewhere in the house.
