Hi all,
been a while since i've been on here but would like some advice if poss. I have bad Psoriatic Arthritis and am on Methotrexate 12.5mg weekly.
I've had terrible problems with my right knee which keeps 'giving way' on me, and the pain is excruciating. I cannot weight bear at all on it and the swelling is immense.
I've got to see my rheumy in a few weeks but just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem
Thanks all,
Alison.xx

Mine's RA, Alison67, but I'm afraid it sounds very familiar. It is frightening when you can't trust your knee not to give way. Twisting movement are the worst. Turn round carefully using lots of little steps.
The pain's another matter. As you don't see your consultant for a few weeks I'd suggest you ring the Helpline for advice and/or go to your GP for (more) painkillers. A knee brace might help for short periods - not long ones as that encourages the muscles to pack in and that's the last thing you want. I hope you can get some relief. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thank you Stickywicket,
it was actually a twisting movement that caused my knee to go again yesterday! I'm using a frame to get around at the moment but am in awful pain so gonna rest it for the day. Thaanks for the tips.xx0 -
Rest is good. So is the frame. Ice or heat may help.
By the way, when I suggested the Helpline I actually meant your local Rheumatology Helpline or nurse or whatever they give you rather than AC. Not to denigrate the latter for one instant but the rheumatology clinic would know you personally and might be able to bring forward your appointment. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi alison
good to see you again.
Sorry to hear about your knee
A few weeks isn't too long in one sense, but in the meantime (sure you will anyway),take extra care and maybe attach your mobile phone to your frame?? just incase anything goes wrong and you need help??

Hi Alison,
That is painful and Sticky has given you some great advice. If you can carry on resting it and use frozen peas wrapped in a towel to see if that brings down the swelling for you.
Definitely ring up your doctor for an appointment and/or ring up your rheumy nurse for an earlier appointment if possible.
You take care,

take a pic of it before swelling goes down so you can show them how bad it wasval0

Thanks to all of you x
I'm gonna ring my rheumy tomorrow to see if i can get my appt. brought forward. I shall let you all know how i get on, thanks again.xxxxx0 -
Hi Alison
Hope you can get an earlier appointment! and as the others have said, rest that knee . I hope that your rheummy will suggest some treatment to reduce the swelling (which might help reduce the pain). Sometimes draining and joint injection helps.
let us know how you get on please
