hello thank you for your welcome.Been to physio today as \I have had pelvic pain and reduced mobility for a few months, xray showed PsA in pelvic joints just to add to the other painful joints!. Ice packs are my favoured choice to reduce pain, brings a new meaning to a numb bum !! As I am on 25mg MXT sc and also tried Sulphasalazine and Hydroxycolloquine without success, any ideas what may work for me especially as I may not be eligible for Biologics as I have a skin infection. seeing my Rheumy in 2 weeks
Take care

Hi lalla, I too have PA and have tried a number of meds. We are not the ones to advise you about meds as we are not doctors (albeit arthritis specialists in our own ways!) as everyone reacts differently to the medications: one mans godsend is another's poison - that isn't negativity, that is fact.
What type of skin infection do you have? Are you being treated for it and is there a chance it will clear? If that is the case then I don't see why a biologic shouldn't be an option but, as I said, I am not a doc. I wish you well and I reckon your computer skills are OK! Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Dreamdaisy, thanks for your reply, yes I have been treated for a fungal skin infection for 3 months so it should clear up eventually but will take a while longer yet. So I hope it doesnt stop me being eligible for Biologics, will find out in 2 weeks aaah patience, patience!! take care Linda0

Hi Linda,
Patience is so hard sometimes I hope they will move you on to the biological's and that you ill find something to help. Hang in there flower and don't forget we do half decent pocket duties Cris x0 -
Hi all you lovely people, had my M CAT appt on Monday- lovely Dr, all limbs and joints put through their paces, Ive had a lot of pelvic pain, apparently I have inflammation in pelvic bones, something footballers/ athletes or dancers can get!!!!! Its a long time since I have done anything like that honestly , Tuesday I saw my Rheumy and Ive had a Kanalog inj to knock down the inflamation in my joints(that will also differentiate whats PsA,,OA ,)and will be going for MRI scan on my spine, see how far its slipped (if I didnt laugh Id cry)Tell me what do you think of inside the scanner? when I had a previous one my thoughts came round to how do they clean inside the scanner! I had visions of a little lady on her hands and knees ,head first in the aperture, bottom wiggling as she scrubbed away Think Ill take a J cloth with me and save her the job ((((all of you)))) Linda0
-
They have an enormous feather duster to do that job. I used to think 'Great, I can lie here for the next half and hour or so and not feel guilty!' Utter bliss. I am glad you've had the scan, they do seem to be taking good care of you and trying to get to the bottom of it all, so let's hope things start improving for you soon. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I tend to think "Have I inadvertently left on my person some metal bit that might very quickly be exiting through my ear or abdomen?" So far, no.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Linda,
Nice to see you got a bit of treatment from the rumo and also that you have had your scan.
Hey not sure they do clean the one down here Its was a very off white and looked like it needed a good bleach job
I hate the inside of the scanner... bit claustrophobic I guess. They are better than they used to be mind. had one back in the '80's when they were the shiny new type of diagnostic tool.... had to go miles to have it as well...... anyway it had no covers so it was all cogs and moving plates. Bit mesmerising really and possibly better cus it gave you one thing to look at
You keep posting and nice to see you again. Cris xx0 -
hi all. im a newbie too.. was recently diagnosed with PA after feeling quite ill since jan this year.. the steroid jabs in both knees have been a godsend and im currently in my 2nd week of taking sulfasalazine, but ive developed these awful aches and tingly pains in other places.. ie shoulders, elbows wrists and even fingers.. also my back has been playing up too recently.. are these typical of PA? i often feel as if my mucsels are wasting away and im ususaly very tired.. im holding down a 16hr week job but its so hard to explain to someone that you dont feel well when your problem is invisible !0

Hi Lalla,
I've got PA too. Had it about 8 years since I was 20ish and on MTX, Sulfa and the wonderful Humira (which has made a massive difference). I've also got a slip in my back so I feel your pain!
I quite like the scanners when I can listen to the radio. Although I always worry that there is some hidden bit of metal in me that will fly out and go ping. Last time I was in one was for a jaw scan - not fun - drool everywhere so bet someone did have to clean up after that! Yuk.
Hope all goes well for you,

Hi Linda ,
I also got PsA. Just over a year now. But got my first delivery of my chosen biologic today...
I think I had the same steroid Injection as you (about a month ago now) it seems to be wearing off now though.
Question for you... How to differentiate between PsA inflammation and OA inflammation post injection ? ( my knee seems to be up and down the last month regardless of the steroid in me)
Take care0 -
Hi Fireman, do you have both sorts of arthritis then? My PA inflammation was tangible, fat knees and ankles and hot to the touch. Since the humira (began in 2009) I no longer have the heat, but visible swelling still occurs despite my inflammatory markers being consistently below 5. As for the OA running riot in my knees that is pure pain, nowt else. Mind you, we are all different! I hope the new med works for you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. HI fireman Phil, sorry Ive been off the computer as my phone line was down, but in reply , since my steroid IM inj. Most of my joints have eased, the tendonitis has gone and the stiffness particularly in my hands and back have virtually gone YIPPEE. I feel I can stand straighter and sit to drive, have shopped till I drop (nearly ) not dropped before I shop !!
I have more energy and not as exhausted, now I feel tired because I have done some gardening, before just thinking about it would make me tired. I feel I have found ME who was buried under the constant pain, so I am going to enjoy the next few weeks while the steroid works it little miracle.I guess all those joints and tendons and ligaments were inflammed from PsA, the remaining joints ie shoulder, L4/5 facets in spine and one in the foot are still uncomfortable, but I can cope with those and I think they are OA  Going for MRI scan week tomorrow, take care Linda0 -
Oh dear I've a horror of MRI scans never had one yet and hope I don't - am completely claustrophobic couldn't even go pot-holing on a school trip. Are they more effective than normal scans of specific joints and how do x-rays compare I wonder? The only good thing for me is that the health board here are so tight/ skint that they hate flying people down to Aberdeen where the big scanners etc are so I'm hoping I'll blag my way out of this particular experience by appealing to their Scrooge like instincts - clean or not! :greenIf you get lemons, make lemonade0
-
Fingers crossed for you Linda that the remaining sore areas are not OA (as that would mean nothing can be done to ease it eh?)
I got my golimumab in me before the steroid wore off completely. Off to take the dogs a our 4 mile walkmwe used to run every day (up til last year)
Take care0
