Got to wait another 3 months for a pain injection!!!

Can you believe it, I saw my ankke surgeon in June for my annual check up for my ankke replacement. Anyway I've been having pain in the ankle but fortunately it's not the ankle joint, it's the sub talar joint. He said I could have a steriod injection but I would have to have in under anesethic whilst he is viewing it on xray. He told me to go naway and think about it and ring him if I decided to go ahead as I wasn't sure at the time(hoped it would improve on it's own)
I rang him at the beginning on July to say I wanted it done and I finally got my appointment through after another phone call and my Doctor writing. Now I can't believe the appointment is for 8th Dec so I have to be in pain for a further 3 months.
Not only that I live in the Isle of Wight and the hospital is the Nuffield Orthopedic in Oxford and they want me there at 7.30am!!
Not even sure why they are sending me to the day surgry unit for a flaming injection.
Anyway I rang them to say I can't get there at that time so she is going to get back to me to say whether I can get there later.Knowing my luck I'd get there at 7.30 and be last on the list.
Okay finished ranting!!
Anita.

Rant away I can understand your frustration seems so unfair. XAS Sufferer

Poor you, Anita. I really feel for you. That seems so unfair. Can you phone up and see if they'll inform you if they have a cancellation? Not sure if that's feasible with you due to distance though. x0

Hi Anita
That IS a long time to wait. I presume you went to the same hospital earlier in the year to see this consultant. That really is a rubbish time to give you especially when travelling from the IOW. I don't suppose they took that into consideration at all when notifying you of your appointment time. It is a shame you cannot have this procedure done at a hospital nearer you.

Hi Anita,
Its a long old wait for the day surgery units for sure.....
I wish it was quicker for you and do sympathise cus I have the same with me back..... now know its the 5th of October or the next one 2 weeks later..... Its so overdue as well.
They have to do it in day surgery if it's under xray cus the xray machines in there are so good and clear....It means instead of feeling where and possibly missing they can see where and get it right flower so though its a long wait at least it will go into the right bit.
Can you ring the day unit and see if there is a cancellations list at all? Sadly if its like here it will take the time it takes cus of the back log of people waiting for the xray jabs.
Hang in there and really hope they can offer you a cancellation. Cris xx0 -
Oh Anita
I expect they are going to knock you out a bit so they can do it under Xray....
Bless you that is a long awy and chances are the hospital have some sort of contract with them in Oxford and it's the cheapest deal.
8th December though :???:
That IS along time
Love

I do wish you well with it, I just wish you could have it done nearer.
Take care...and rant all you want..it will make you feel a little better.Love

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your replies and comments. The reason I am going to Oxford is because that is where I had the joint replaced, and I go once a year for a check up.
I am still waiting for them to ring me back to let me know if I can arrive mid morning. If not I will hang on to the appointment (just in case) but ring my rheumatologist and see if I can get it done here.
Not quite sure what my husband is going to do all day!!
Also I forgot to say I have to ring the day before to check they have a bed. Which is why when she said coukld I stay in a B&B I said no.
I can just imagine booking a B&B and the ferry then they say oh sorry it's cancelled!!
Not only that if you have a hospital appointment you can get a cheaper fare on the ferry but only on a day return and it's about half price so there is no way I am going the day before.
When I went into Salisbury Hospital for my skin graft I was told to arrive at midday and I was in theatre at 2.30 and that was for a weeks stay, much more civilized lol!
Anyway I live in hope they will say I can go later. So, if you could all keep your fingers crossed that would be great.
I will ask about cancelations.

Hi Anita,
I was just wondering could you not transfer to the General or to QA? It would be so much easier for you that way?
I really hope the ankle eases or you and in the mean time it might help to be strapped up if its not already and I sometimes find the gels help a bit... they don't knock it back far but at least they do a wee bit.
Hang in there flower and I so hope they could fit you in with a cancellation. Cris x0 -

Hi Cris
Well the thing is I had my left elbow joint replaced at the Nuffield no problem. The Registrar that actually performed the op is now a consultant at Southampton General. So in my wisdom I thought I would transfer so my yearly check up could be there. Unfortunately he now does shoulders but he recommended the Elbow guy there so I thought well I never got Prof Carr at Oxford the first time so I may as well. So, last April I had my right elbow replaced in the General. It was great at first then 5 weeks in I got an infection and spent a total of 8 weeks on and off in hospital to fight the infection 3 months on IV antibiotics and for all this time I had an open wound which as it went on was exposing more bone and metal it was a nightmare!!So, the Genral wouldn't be my first choice.
I will ring my Rhuemy nurse on Monday and see if it could be done here.
Although if I can get the time altered I would rather go to Oxford as they are a specialist Hospital.
