Just got a letter saying my appointment for 28th september has been put back to 9th november. Then when i called she said it gone back again till 10th January grrrrrrrrrrr.....so i said i didnt feel my plaquenil was working yet, my steriods stop in 3 weeks and then i know all pain comes back, i have had rashes, more swellling on joints and more pain and i need to speak with the rheumatologist.
The one i saw back in june who strongly suspected RA, was a locum so now im seeing a hungarian lady, but even that is not guarrenteed now...I have to call back this time next week and she said she may be able to secure the november appt but couldnt make any promises....

I dont want to wait that long in pain and also for a diagnosis, the locum said i wuld get a group diagnosis at end september.

Sorry all just having a rant...they have no idea what it is like living in daily pain do they!?

Also she said your down for intensive therapy on either 9th nov or 10th january whichever one i finally get...i didnt knwo this...what is it?? Does anyone know?

Has this happened to anyone else or is it just the lovely south of england that muck up appts!?

Hope your all well today

Love Senna xxxxx

I am sorry. I live near London and often get my appointments moved several times.I did complain once and was then double booked for an earlier appointment so 2 of us squeezed in for a 5 min quickie rush job.
I would phone and ask for any cancellation to be offered to you as you need to be seen asap.Make it clear why you cannot wait until January and they should take note. I do hope so.
Sorry I don't know what intensive therapy is either.

    Hi senna

l would be fuming too

You poor thing you must feel like you have waited far too long already. maybe if you ring back to 'check' whether they have secured the November appt and do what Elizabeth suggests. Ask for an earlier appt and maybe another steroid jab???

I understand totally where your coming from

I was meant to see rheumy in august, that got put back until 25th october and I have now recieved a letter telling me that the new appointment has been cancelled and I am now on a waiting list and they will contact me 6 weeks before my appointment. At least we have very good rheumy nurses who get onto the consultants straight away and get things sorted if its needed.

I must admit I have been very fortunate, I see my consultant twice a year and in between times a rheumatology nurse, so basically I see someone once every three months. Mine is a teaching hospital but I don't know if a) that makes and difference and b) why it should.

I am also very lucky in that I live a two minute or so drive from my hospital, so I always say I can take any cancellation when waiting for an MRI or somesuch - that may or not be an option for you but one worth considering, maybe. DD

Thankyou for all your replies. I took the advice and i phoned the rheumatology appointments back up - apparently there are no cancellation waiting lists, so the receptionist ( after explaining about pain etc) put me through to the rheumatologist senior nurse who was absolutely lovely :)

She said i shouldnt have to wait with the rashes and pain im experiencing and that the intensive therapy was because the rheumy i saw wanted to keep me in check incase the drugs she put me on didnt work and to try to modify whatever is wrong with me...so at least i know!! Also the side effects of plaquenil shouldnt be happening 10 weeks on...so she said you do need to be seen.

So the woman i spoke to said she pass all info and will get the specialist rhemy nurse to call me either tommorow or monday and have a chat and speak to the rheumy about seeing me sooner...so fingers crossed.

Just so nice to speak to someone who understands, and so i wait to hear.

I also said i had been keeping a diary since i saw them in june and also taking pics on phone of the swelling and rashes so they can see whats been going on....just hope they dont think im a hypercondriac!! lol

Thanks again for replying - your all so supportive :)

    Hugs love senna xxxx
