Fed up

Hi all
At the moment I'm really fed up and feeling sick to boot!
I have OA and I'm taking 8/500 cocos with ibuprofen; a couple of weeks ago I had severe pain in my hands about an hour or so after taking my full dose of medication so on the advice of some of you good people I spoke to my doctor about these painful episodes. That was on Monday, so she decided to change my NSAIDs to naproxen to give my hands full pain relief - they did improve things a bit, but not totally! So here we are four days later and my stomach is not in a good state! Had to speak to one of the other docs on a telephone consultation, who's told me to stop taking the NSAIDs altogether for the time being to let my stomach recover.
And on top of all this I'm hosting my wife's big birthday bash tomorrow night, and I'm not feeling like doing anything at the moment, except curling up and going to sleep!
Aaaagggghhhhh!!!!
Thanks for reading my rant ... lol!

I was told that Naproxen should be taken with a stomach prtotector such as Omeprazole so please ask you GP about this as soon as you can. In the meantime I think you should stop the nap for the sake of your tummy. (but I am not a doc) Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Scozzie!
Hey, never a good time is there! Rant away!!! I got home from work just now and wanted sooooo badly to just do the same. Certainly as it seems you have your work cut out too!
Seems to me your meds are a bit cock-eyed, looking at them, but like DD said, I'm no doc either suffice it to say that I would certainly say get yourself back to the dr as soon as poss! There are better combos for sure that will work for you, OK?
Regarding the CoCo; I take the 30/500 (x2) cocos - they are far better than the 8/500 for me personally. It's definitely the codeine that helps me so I use them later at night too.
Happy Birthday to your Wife for tomorrow and good luck!!!

Hiya,
Yep, what the others have said is right. I hope you feel better soon and you're ok for tomorrow. Go to bed early tonight. Have you tried using a heat pillow for your hands?
Have a lovely day and hopefully you'll forget your pain, even for a wee while. Wish your wife a happy birthday!

Hi.
I can only echo what the others say......Omneprozol or there is another one I can never remember the name
I'm on max dose of naproxan and I asked my {then} GP about a stomach lining tablet.....to whitch he replied ...WHY?? I reminded him about the repeat prescription for naproxen along with other things so he just muttered and then wrote me a prescription. If it hadnt been for this forum I would never have known about them

Hi Scozzie,
I am sorry your having so much pain and trouble with the stomach as well.
I echo the others you need to have a protector as well as the pain meds. Your gp should be willing to give you one.
Hey hope your get your wife's bash all sorted and you both have a good time. Cris x0 -
Sorry folk I should have mentioned when I said I had to let my stomach recover that I was immediately put on omneprozel. Based on my reaction to the naproxen I also handed the leftovers to a pharmacist for disposal - I don't think they made a big enough difference to me pain wise to resume taking them and until you guys mentioned it I didn't realise they could be taken in conjunction with a stomach protector!
Thank you all for your comments, I'm now starting to feel a lot better after 12 hours and just the first tablet on the omneprozel, so I should be ok my wife's bash.

Hi Scozzie
Take the omeprazole and your belly will recover then you can go back on the naproxen if doc is happy. Also suggest you talk to your Gp about your pain releif - co-cos areavailable at 16/500 and at 30/500 so there is more help there if Doc is happy to prescribe them - they are not available over the counter at the higher strengths.
busy time isn't it for you? With your wife's 'do' here!! You know what? You will manage it somehow the strength will come from somewhere :???:
Love and luck and Happy Birthday to Mrs Scozzie

Hi again all, thanks for all the advice.
My wife had a wonderful party and I managed just fine - my OA hasn't stopped me doing anything I really want to do, it's just slowed me down a little - especially with physical stuff at work. I now consider whether I'm going to aggrevate things and by how much before I do something - but fortunately I don't suffer the same degree of pain many of you do, but it does seem to be an ever present part of my life now, in varying degrees.
My stomach is still a problem however, and last hour or so of the party was not a comfortable time for me - my wife knew there was a problem, but hopefully no one else noticed. I'm still taking the Omeprazole, which sometimes seems to be helping and at others not a zip ... lol. It's knocking my appetite around, which is no bad thing ... lol, but I can think of more pleasant ways of losing weight.
Take care and I hope this weather's not affecting too many of you.

I am pleased to hear that you 'survived' the party, scozzie, and I hope your wife had a lovely time. OA is now a part of your life but if you are able to carry on much as before then that is a good thing. Just rest when you need (and when you don't) don't push yourself too hard and you will still be able to do what you want for a while longer yet.
It doesn't matter how much or not one is affected by this rubbish: it impinges on life and that is grounds enough for complaining. I had my BP taken by a nurse the other day and I cried as the cuff tightened - things are not wonderful at the mo. She empathised by saying 'I know how tough this is, my elbow's been hurting for a while and I can't ride my bike.' One part of me wanted to clout her, another part didn't have the energy, another part fell about laughing but the polite part kicked in and I said that pain is pain, no matter what level. And that is true. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
