Hi to you all, as some off you know my daughter had to come off embrel because of needle site reactions , she has just had her 3rd dose off cimzia but the problem is she is getting very severe bruising on her arms legs ect and when she injected in her belly on monday she has a massive bruise there now as well she has never had one before when she has injected, she rang the hospital (kings mill) and told the rheaumy nurse and she made an appointment to see next week, my daughter did explain to them how bad the bruising was, i went on the internet yesterday reading up about cimzia side effects it said on ther if you get any bruising to seek medical advise immediatly, so after trying numerous times to get throught to the rheaumy nurse to no avail i rang our doctors and explained to them what was happening with the bruising and that my daughter had cut her finger last week and it would not stop bleeding for ages and it was the smallest cut, she was concerned that her blood may not be clotting as it shoud and has sent her for a blood test this morning. i am so annoyed with the hospital why didnt they do this if the blood test comes back showing them up i will be on to the hospital and putting in a complaint. we are not ones to keep bothering them we only ring when there is a problem perhaps if we were constantly nagging them my daughter would get better treatment because up until now its ben a disgrace, :evil

Often when we start new meds we do have reactions but they disappear as the body adjusts to the drug. When I began sulphasalazine nine years ago I was smothered in bruises but after a few weeks the bruises faded. I sometimes get bruises where I inject, if you hit a blood vessel, no matter how small, you do bruise. I now have bruising due to the steroids.

Your girl has only had three doses of the cimzia so far so this is very early days. You (and the GP) are doing all the right things but I don't think you need to complain about the hospital just yet. This is a new med for your daughter, keep in touch with the rheumatology team by all means but please don't blame them for something which may not be their fault: it takes time for us to adjust to meds, it takes time for meds to work, it takes time for bloods to show benefits or problems. Please let us know how she gets on, I can understand your frustration but hold ye hard girl. I wish you both well. DD

Being a parent is never easy, is it Kmr? We always worry more about them than we would about the same thing happening to ourselves but you are right to be cautious. These are powerful meds. I hope the blood test result is good.

thank you she had to go to hospital yesterday and has now been taken off cimzia, she has to wait 6 weeks then is going to start rixitab (infusions) she is not to happy about having to go in hospital for a day. the consultant also said she has to cut her hours at work and do less with the horses so all in all a great day NOT. but we will survive and carry on and as a mum will always do what i can to help
