Good morning all,
Getting very nervous now, going in for my hip revision operation on Tuesday, op on Wednesday. All this because some idiot put my hip re-surface in at the wrong angle.!!!!!
:x
Got a phone call from consultant yesterday and he wants to see me tomorrow to go through things, apparently there is a chance I have metal ions in my bloodstream from the re-surace not working properly.
Don't know why I'm so scared, I wasn't the first time
I would be grateful for any one who fancies pocket duty tomorrow and next week if you are not too busy.
Take care all

It's a funny thing, Daylily, but I don't think you necessarily get less scared with further ops - especially in your case where one has gone wrong - but you do develop more coping strategies which help.
A friend of ours swears his first TKR was put in back to front as it bent in the wrong direction but he went back under the knife and it's great now.
Never too busy, Daylily. I'll bring a magnet to get rid of all those ions.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi daylily,
What time is your appointment tomorrow? It has been a long wait for you and to be honest it is not surprising that you are on edge about it.
I do hope you have managed to get things sorted to your peace of mind for both you and your husband for when you get home after next week’s operation.
I am sorry that you have the extra worry of the ion’s in your blood stream.
Will be there with you tomorrow.

Hello all,
Been to see consultant about the op., waited 3 hours as clinic running late (poor hubby was so uncomfortable all that time in the wheelchair) and all he wanted was for me to sign the consent form for the op!!!!!!
I had list of 8 questions and he could only answer 1 with certainty. He doesn't know the answers to the others until he goes in the hip to see how much soft tissue damage has been done by the wonky hip resurface.
The 1 he did know was if the recovery time is longer for a revision op- answer yes.
About the metal ions. Apparently the ladies who took the blood last time put it in the wrong bottle and it got sent to the wrong lab.....
They took some more bloods, (In the blue bottle this time lol lol)
Ironic, thanks for asking about hubbys aftercare, SW was here for 2 and half hours yesterday, we decided on half hour in the morning and 15 minutes at night to get hubby up and put him to bed. Told her we cannot afford it and she's going to ask her boss to make an exception this time or at the very least a nominal amount. This is my opprtunity to finally get some permanent help with hubby. Once he's got used to it I'm going to make sure I keep it on. SW thinks I'm heading for carer burn out.
Many thanks to you all, I feel a lot calmer now about the op as had a good natter with the surgeon. Can't wait to be out of pain.

Hey daylily, I am glad your appointment went reasonably well even it took a humungous stretch of time to arrive. I am also very pleased to hear that some level of care will be available for your husband, have you arrangements in place for while you are in hospital? I think the SW is right, you have a deal on your hands with your beloved and you ALSO need some TLC for yourself. That isn't selfishness, it's a necessity. I have to go now but I am thinking of you, very much. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Oddly enough, | always feel happier with a doc who's prepared to say "I don't know." It's an honest answer rather than a bit of flannel designed to reassure you.
So now you know the recovery time will be longer, Daylily. Please don't try to rush it. I can well understand your worries about your husband but the best thing you can do for both of you is to get yourself 100% again.
I love the 'roll on Tuesday' attitude. Yes, indeed. I wish you well, Daylily. You deserve it.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
