So glad to have found a British support site-been reading an american one for a while but need to know that I'm not alone with this daily grind. Have been diagnosed with RA for 4 years and struggling to balance the meds with the effects on mu immune system-having astma I've had 7 chest infections in the last year so have to keeppausing RA meds-it's a nightmare and causing chaos with my work life as a teacher.I wonder if anyone else balances these 2 diseases and has any suggestions about avoiding infections? Just be glad to know that there are folks out there who understand.

Hi dibdab, oh believe me there are plenty of folk on here who understand. I have asthma and PA: for the latter I take injected meth and humira, and I am currently trying to come off oral steroids. I have had a recent burst of wheeziness but I think that was due entirely to the latter activity. For the asthma I use Pulivinal inhalers. I have found the immuno-suppressants great for the asthma (and the eczema too) inasmuch as neither bother me too badly now. I teach but in a private capacity - each pupil has their hands doused in anti-bug hand stuff, and sometimes more than once depending on the amount of coughing, sneezing and nose-picking (and that's just me! ) The LWA forum is where the questions about meds, coping, doctors, apppointments etc are dealt with, the rest are self-explanatory. I am glad you have found us ( but sorry you have RA), I hope you find the site supportive and helpful. I wish you well. DD

Well hello and welcome, I too did the same found the American one first then found this a few months ago. I have found so much support from everyone on this site and I know you will, sorry you have arthritis and had to find us.

I too am a teacher (secondary) although only teach three days a week now due to disease and I know how hard it is and how easy it is to mask the problem at work. I have AS and am 43 on anti TNF injections and methotrexate and numerous other painkillers, it's just a roller coaster. Hopefully when your meds are sorted you will Ferlinghetti better it's very much finding the right combination, they are still working on mine. Hope to see you around. Xx
