Kneecap OA.

The normal M O for my knees later on in the day from about 4-5pm onwards is they start to really ache and go red and hot and the feeling I can only describe as angry, never swell much but it’s painful enough fro them to seriously inhibit my pleasure of cooking, I either have to abandon the kitchen and let the wife carry on so I can sit down and rest as the pain and my temper gets the better of me or I have to use a stool which isn’t the easiest of thing to use as it gets in the way if I have to move to get something and I tend to end up swearing a lot.
Now is this common for OA of the patella?, do any of you who still work go through this kind of depressing and sorry episode when you get back home?. I’m sorry if this I’ve repeated myself I tend to forget things these days.

I reckon it's common for any arthritis, mell. I now do most household chores sitting down, that way I can manage. It means I can still do them and that is psychologically important. I no longer care how long they take, or how many breaks are required from start to finish, at least I am still functioning and doing my bit. The preparation of most meals is accompanied by profanities - hopefully they add a little piquancy to the dish! I take the dullers about an hour before so the worst is taken off. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Mell,

I am so sorry to know you have that kind of pain. I get it as well and well I am lucky between the trams, pregabs and oxy it just about is at an 'acceptable' level..... What that means any more I have no idea.

I know you couldn't get on with the pregabs and I so wish you had been able to. I think they need to have another look by an ortho mell.

Hang in there and as for work... you know I do but thats a lot different to what your doing and I so hope there will be some kind of solution that way as well that is right for you. I wish i knew what could help you but I think you have to push for something to get the pain back to a manageable level. Leaving you a cup of earl grey and a ((( ))) Cris xx

    Hi mell

the fact that you are still working fulltime means you get no reats during the day and your day starts early l think?

You need to sit down and do your bit....have alook on the web at 'perching stools' they are not perfect but at least enable you to rest and still be productive at home. I know you enjoy cooking a lot.

    Love

Mell I know what you mean about the stool ...having to keep getting up for things
Do you stand a lot at work...it does sound has though you are aggravating the OA...I suppose you have tried ice packs...apart from that I would tell your GP that they are getting hot...see what they say.
Sorry Im not much help...but I do hope they ease up for you.
    Love

HI, Sorry about the arthritis in the knees. I read somwhere that it's one the places that OA is likely get. It is painful, I know as I've just started to get it there a few months or so ago. Coming down stairs is the most painful thing for me.
I don't know what to suggest to help in the kitchen, maybe slow preperation of the meal over the day, if you eat in the evening. Sort of pacing yourself? I use my husband, who's very good!!! Can't help but feel guilty though.
