I'd suggest you google DIAL UK. They are a UK network of Disability Advice centres. Find your local one and ask if they have facilities for allowing you to test drive one/some. I went to my local one & tried out some scooters. They did also have electric wheelchairs. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

My Ot told me that if i was ever going through a bad flare or on holiday and was in need of wheelchair to ring the salvation army as they loan them out for a small donation...Do you have an OT or physio you could ask too they may know of somewhere local..xxTracyxx0

Where ever you hire the chair from just make sure that you are measured as some of these seats are massive and you feel as if you are in the armchair of your living room. You do need to be comfy but feel secure.
Make sure that if you are using it indoors that it is not too clumsy and will fit through the doors and you can maneouvre easily around.
It needs to be sturdy enough to take you down to the shops on uneven paths and not just round the smooth lanes of the sshopping centres.
I have an electric chair for the house(cause I have difficulty walking all the time) and a scooter for outdoors. My chair is suitable for outside but I do prefer the scooter.
Hope this helps
Good luck I hope you find one soon.

Thanks for suggestion but unfortunately our local shopmobility only has manual wheelchairs, however appreciate your concern. Rome0 -

I emailed the local DIAL UK and they told me to contact Shopmobility who do not have electric wheelchairs in the town I live in so I am still working on this one. Rome0 -
Was the idea to hire one (or more) in order to find out which is the best one to buy? If so, I would think any decent local shop which sells them would allow you to try a few. (My own local disability shop would bring them out to you but they only operate in Yorkshire).
If the idea was just to hire one occasionally then I’m sorry, I can’t help except to say that Traluvie is right about Red Cross. They certainly used to hire out manual ones as I had one years ago for a holiday. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
