Hi Folks

I know there have been quite a few threads about Humira side effects, but I wanted to check something out with all you experts!

I started Humira in April and it's been really great for me- the only side effect has been a constant runny nose.

I am on the standard fortnightly injections and a few days after my last injection I felt s kind of 'rawnesss and 'heaviness' in my chest.. It passed off after a couple of days last time.. I have got it again today (I did my injection on Thursdsy night).

I don't feel ill and I really don't want to stop the Humira.

Has anyone else had these kind of symptom?

thanks

Marion

Weird, isn't it? Humira has eased my constant runny nose (year-round rhinitis) and lightened the heaviness in the chest (asthma). I reckon a read-through of the lengthy and very small print sheet that comes with every box of the jollop might be worth a bash, but if the benefits are outweighing the side-effects . . . . . . . . . ooooh, it's tricky. I think your rheumatology team should be made aware of this, I am certain these things are listed but I cannot remember the 'rarity' quota. I hope you are able to continue with it, Marion, it has been a good one for you, hasn't it? I wish you well. DD

    Hi Marion,

I do hope the sniffles have eased off today. If it happens again you might be best to mention it to the rheumy nurse just to put your mind at ease.

    Hi Marion,

I also am not on that but I just think if its effecting your lungs.... it might be worth talking to the rumo nurse just in case.

I know you don't want to come off it but it might not be that doing it there maybe something its masking possibly.

I don't know what I would do though flower in your shoes. Leaving you a ((((( ))))) an a hope it doesn't happen again. Cris xx

    Hi

Thanks for your replies... the heaviness in my chest has disappeared again today, but I have an intermittent asthma-like cough now! I think I do need to speak to the rheumy nurse, so will call her tomorrow.

it is bizarre DD that the humira has stopped your rhinitis and 'heaviness' but has caused mine!!

cris - all the best for tomorrow.

I think they warn about side effects and the chest, don't they? I suppose that as my immune system is suppressed it's stopped all the allergic reactions: if you don't have asthma etc then this could well be a side effect of the H. I think your rheumatologist should be told for sure, I hope they decide you can stay on it as it is helping you. My fingers are crossed. DD

One of the known complications from Humira is throat closure. Very rare but happened to me. Had a sequence of colds, throat infections, sinisitis for about 4 months then got a virus from my son and it closed my throat. Little scary but all better now. My aim isn't to scaremonger I just wanted you to be aware as I wasn't!

Oh and rituximab also cause the same reaction but quicker (took about an hour). Will find out if the next one Cimzia will do the same in a few weeks time! Oh the joys! But at least I've convinced the hospital to let me take it while in the department rather than at home with just my toddler for company.

Hi Marion, I have no experience of humira, but just wanted to say, hi.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
