Mr DD and me went out last night, we met up with four friends who came to our wedding in '97 and whom we last saw in October 2010. It was the usual beer/curry combo (why tinker with summat that works?) and a good time was had by all. By about 10pm I was feeling very uncomfortable (four hours of sitting down was just too much) so I asked Linda for her keys and Nigel, bless him, escorted me to Linda's gaff. He left me at the gate, trotted off and I wandered up the path. Did the first lock (big long ky) then tried the second (short Yale type). And tried, and tried and tried. Damned hands weren't working that well, wrists neither and I could not get the key to turn. So I did what any sensible woman would do, I texted tjt and we had a lively exchange. First message sent at 10.22pm by me and bless him he kept my spirits up.

Why did you not contact Mr DD or your mates, I hear you cry. Simples, Mr DD is allergic to his mobile and has it on silent when we are out so he would not have responded. I didn't have any of the others' numbers as we have all changed phones over the past few months and as contact has tailed off I didn't have them. I spent an uncomfortable half an hour sat on Linda's doorstep, tjt making me giggle and cheering me up, then at long last I heard voices and there they all were. Mr DD and Caroline were in the lead, I gave him the key, said I couldn't turn it and of course he did it first time.

Utter humiliation for me. Some tears too. I felt useless. They were all very sweet.

Tony? You are an utter darling, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your care last night, you are a great friend and I am blessed to know you.

Well DD, that was, as Mr Tillytop would say "a real b*ggers muddle". But how lovely that you had Tony to keep your spirits up while you waited.

aw dd you poor thing sat on that step. It must have felt like hours for you.
I can also imagine how upset you must have felt not being able to do the lock.
I am so pleased though that you had our tjt for company via text and I can imagine the giggles you had. He is such a lovely person and glad he was there for you.

    have a good day today

Poor you DD but I reckon you did the right thing by phoning someone for company. We recently changed our front door locks because of the trouble my son and I were having with keys.

I do think they should have checked you got indoors first before driving off even made you a cuppa tea and made sure you were comfy.
    Thank goodness it wasn't snowing!

Aw DD so sorry to hear about the ending to your evening, but Tony came up trumps and you could not have had a better person's number to call, especially if you needed someone to make light of the predicament you were in. Bless you both, so Tony was your knight in shining armour that night and not Mr. DD

Isn't it odd, the little things that suddenly crop up and show us that a new low has been achieved. I have found some positives: it wasn't raining, it was a balmy night, it was interesting watching people going about their Saturday night (Linda's gaff is in the town centre), and, whether he likes it or not, Mr DD's phone WILL be switched on in the event of our going our separate ways for a while. (Even his workaholic boss won't be ringing at 10pm on a Saturday night, he emails instead.) I made the right call in leaving the restaurant, my assessment of the situation was that if I got back and rested I would last longer (fairer for Mr DD too as this was also his night out). I wasn't banking on my hands being that useless. :evil Damned body. Damned disease. Gorgeous Tony.

PS I will also be buying a key turner-thingy-doo-dah-whatnot.
