Bedpans? Utterly revolting things, I am with you all the way on that front. Reading and sleeping lying down are hard enough without adding micturation into the mix. Ludicrous.

I am sure that you will sort things out when you are there. My guess is they will want you up and about ASAP, so the commode may be a welcome sight! My ortho walked in on me two days after my first synovectomy, he just settled down for a chat, I went with the flow (though the other flow had finished by then! ) In his defence I don't think he realised I was perched on said item, with my heavily bandaged left leg resting on the bed! Hi Iris

Just wanted to add to the growing mound of pocket dwellers and send as many anti wobble vibes as will fit in too. Sorry this seems a more scarey one for you when you have already been through the mill over the months.

Do hope all goes well and that you are soon home again and have a speedy recovery. Did you decide on a name yet or are you waiting until you have bonded?
I will be thinking of you and keeping fingers crossed over the next few days.
love and hugs always ((( )))

    Oops

Sorry I posted the same thing twice by mistake so I guess that doubles the good wishes Iris.
Always best to have extra hugs in reserve I guess.

    Hi Iris,

After my recent op I was told that whether you have a catheter or not depends on your surgeon and how he'll think you'll cope with a bedpan after your op. I didn't get a choice my surgeon opted for a catheter.

Alternatively you could tell the nurse you won't be able to manage a bed pan and you'd rather have a catheter and see what she says.

As for managing things other than having a wee on a bedpan I shouldn't worry about because the meds usually bung everyone up anyway .....in my experience the main topic of a ward can be whether you've opened your bowels or not  :lol:

I shall be with you on Thursday, making sure they do a good job

    HI Iris

calling in to say that there will be three additions in your pocket from the wonky household. I hope you've got deep pockets because there's a stash of chocolate to pack too  , not to mention a special rope toy from Littlelegs - she says to pull on it when you need a hand wiht anything and she'll be right there.

Will be thinking of you and willing the evil one to get his marching orders in double quick time

    Hi Iris,

The bed pan thing isn't so uncommon you know..... I wouldn't ask for one and ended up having to be catheterised (even as I write it I go red and found it so embarrassing both to have it put in and to have the bag and so it goes on) but hopefully they will be able to get you it a chair and in to the loo when you need to go... and that might not be the same day as the op so please don;t let that worry you cus your going to be ok.

Heaved in a bucket and a several of hugs, slurps, slobbers, baaaas and yells (ops they were mine cus I put it on my foot) and we will all be ready for wednesday afternoon. Hugs and a lullaby Cris xxx

    Dear Iris,

Try not to worry about the loo issue. I was told I would have a catheter after my last recent op as it was total bed rest for 24 hours. This was after a GA. Also a commode can be brought to the bedside and a nurse or two can help you onto it. Heaps better than a commode. Yep, being in hospital does seem to bung things up  so don't worry about that. Patients have a big smile on their face if they can answer "yes" to the daily question, "have you opened your bowels today". I am sure you will be put at ease with any worries that you may have. You are a inspiration, dear Iris, you have had one op after another.

It will soon be over dear Iris and you will be back with us telling us all about it. Thinking of you,

    Love
    Elna x

    Hi debs...
thank you for thinking of me :wink: The pocket dwellers aren't known for being on their best behaviour ... but they'll certainly be a good distraction.

    Hi berty...
Thanks too for more positive thoughts and also the advice! Yes I think you are right ... wally and tt can't support me' sur le commode' so that is a good enough reason for asking bout the catheter. Good thinking berty.. thanks

    Hello iris

Gosh, cant believe it has come round so quickly!

I do hope it goes well for you on Thursday. I also hate bedpans and that was one of my worries when I had my THR last year! I found the catheter a big help in that first 24 hours - especially having taken in so much fluid via the drip. I eventually did use a bed pan during the nights but never really got used to it!

i will be thinking about you.

Hi Ironic  Hi Marion

Ix....the joys of womanhood indeed. I'll definitely have to ask now, with you and others right behind me k065.gif ..and ready to prod me in the back.

Marion.... I've been amazed at the number of us who hate/ can't use bedpans. who invented them I'd like to ask!

The op date has come round fast.
..like so many other peeps here; one day we're talking about being at pre-op..the next we're in hospital. n015.gif
