How much longer

Morning all,
OMG I am in soooo much pain today, not been this bad for a long time. Been awake most of the night and up and about since 5.30, so tired but too much pain to be able to sleep. When I woke up at 4am I thought I bet it's going to rain but when i went to the loo Irealised it was, this damp is no good for me. I've been having this flare since begining of June, how much longer can it go on, my last blood test showed my ESR was 96, that was in mid August, due for another one tomorrow and see rheumy on 18th. I'm back on tramadol, even though I don't want to be as I've realised that's what upsets my digestive system, but even that's not really killing the pain. I'm hoping the rheumy will change my pain relief, maybe to patches. I'm using heat pad which helps bit and now I'm going for a soak in the bath, then hopefully some sleep. I feel better now I've got this off my chest as I know you'll all understand what it's like, as we've all said before, family don't want to hear us going on about it all the time and don't really understand but it's something we need to get out, thanks for listening.

Sue x

aw, bless ya Sue.. I wish I could take it all away for ya mi dear.. It's so bloody miserable is the pain..
Could you ring the rheumy nurse up, tell her how bad things are at the minute and discuss the pain relief...?
Or even your GP. It shouldn't be a problem for them to prescribe you some patches. I'm on the fentanyl ones. Find them so much better than the morphine.

Best wishes hun, hope that you manage some sleep today. Try your best eh?

We are all here for you, we do understand as you said.

An ESR that high would indicate to me that whatever you are on at the moment is not working too well in controlling the arthritis, no wonder you are in so much pain. I hope that whatever you try to help you, does so. Take care. DD

    Hi Sue

you are suffering so much...l am so sorry

l agree your pain relief could be looked at, but what about your DMARds maybe they will look at those too. This flare has gone on far too long for anyone to cope with.

Up for pocket duties on the 18th if it helps?

    Love

    Toni xx

Thank you all for your replies. This flare has gone on too long, at first you kinda deal with it but after a while it just gets too much and I'vr reached that point now. I can't ring nurse as she only works part time and anyway never gets back to me when I ring (have complained), she's useless, always too busy to be of any help.I'm on 20mg meth, can't take any add ons as have side effects with all of them. Pain relief is co-dyhdramol, not really strong enough, tramadol, good but effects stomach (even with lansoprazole), meloxicam anti-inflam, good and usually strong enough. Tried dyhydrocodeine but made me woozy and tired (fell asleep for 4 hours after taking one). Don't really know where to go from here except pain patches as haven't tried them yet. Also have OA and fribro plus asthma and bronchiectasis (caused by RA). Had steroid in jection at end of June but had minimal effect and only lasted 4 weeks and have now found out they can cause cataracts which I now have (waiting for op) and add to all that depression, which isn't surprising. I managed to get 3 hours sleep this afternoon so that helped. I've not been in too much pain today but it always seems to be nights that are worse anyway, I'm off to bed now, here's hoping for a better night!!!!! If I get some sleep I won't be so grumpy tomorrow

    Morning all,
pleased to say I slept like a baby last night and feeling quite a bit better today, pain is bearable. I'm wondering if the change in weather from very warm to cold played a part and Tuesday was stressful so that probably didn't help. You never know what this disease is going to throw at you next, no matter how long you've been diagnosed and think you are getting your head round the twists and turns. It's a case of just see what each day brings and try to get on with life the best you can, make the most of the good times and rest up and ask for help in bad times.Ooooh I'm sounding a bit philosophical there, must be me age, I'm getting old and wise :lol:
Seriously folks, thanks for all your support and advice, I for one wouldn't get by without this forum, it really is a lifeline.

So glad you were feeling better this morning Sue. Just read this post now and it does help me to realise that others who are diagnosed and on medication still get this low and still have endless pain to cope with - puts my troubles in perspective. A good night's sleep makes the world of difference to managing pain doesn't it? Here's hoping you have another tonight. Mat x

    Morning all,
Thanks again for your support. Feeling more back to "normal", slept quite well again last night and pain is back to being bearable again.

Mat - You will find that even us old hands have bad times where we struggle and need support it's not just newbies who have a hard time so don't think we've got a handle on it and will not have patience with questions and "moans", as Davo (Cameron) says, "We're all in this together!"

Tracey- Hope your ok at mo, thanks for your cheery replies and I love the animations. xx

Hello nanasue, how lovely to read you had a better night's sleep. I had a corker last night, I know the reason why and feel rather gloomy that it won't last. Needs must, however. I am feeling the best I have felt in myself since October 2001, so given that was 10 years ago I am now looking forward to October 2021!

The arthritis roller-coaster is one of the toughest rides out there. Other diseases have some certainties about them (including a cure in some cases) but arthritis does not. It is like some foul tide, ebbing and flowing, tossing us along with it. (Mixed metaphors there, but you know what I mean! We are on a floating just-off-shore rollercoaster!) At least we all have each other for company. DD
