Return of the wrist...

Well, it's come back to haunt me...
Remember way back when I broke my wrist earlier this year, and was in a snazzy purple heavily glittered cast for 9 weeks? Well, I've just come back from an hour and a half of hand therapy with my physio, who thought my wrist looked a bit swollen, it has been for a while but to be honest so much of my body is swollen and hurting i haven't paid much attention to it.
The upshot is after an xray that, the wrist has not healed well and it looks like arthritis has damaged the joint too. I now have to wear a black arm brace during the day (it's black with metal bits sewn into it in strips all the way round) and my resting splint at night. I'll have to wear it until is see the ortho in November who will have a good look at it to see if anything can be done. It's the same chap that's performing my shoulder arthroscopy in 2 weeks so I can have a quick natter to him then about it.
To top it all off, my best friends son (13) has just broken his arm and wrist and only yesterday I was reassuring him and his Mum that it'll heal well and quickly no problems, hah! What did I know?.
Sorry to whinge, as always it feels better just to have typed it up and got it all out. Love and a very big one armed hug to all ((( X

    Ah bless Poppy,

You are now the one armed bandit lol..

You can now decorate your splint, haloween coming up, bet you could think of some really cool ideas to keep the trick or treaters entertained.
You will have to explain to your friend that you are one of the unfortunate ones that will require extra treatment to put things right.
Hopefully November you will know what can be done, and be on the right road to recovery..
    Big Hugs (((((X)))))

What are you like, Poppy??? You'll now have to reassure them that you're the exception that proves the rule. You've just improved his mathematical chances.

I think we'd better all pop round to yours armed with rolls of sellotape and a few safety pins to hold you together until after this op.

I'm glad the physio was on the ball. Splints can do a good job. It's good, too, that it's the same surgeon dealing with your shoulder. Hang on in there. Only two weeks to go. They'll be long ones but, hopefully, things will then start to get better. Don't overdo things. Please?

Good Grief Penfold - what are we going to do with you? I am not that surprised it hasn't healed that well - they phart-harrised about so much with that cast (four versions? five?) that it did not have the chance to properly 'settle' in the early stages of the healing process, so that must have offered a rose-covered-trellis entrance gate for the PA. Dammit, poppy. dammit all to hell. I am so, so sorry. ((())) DD

Thankyou all for your lovely kind messages of support  I am astounded, but having worn the brace even for a short while, it has really helped  I didn't even realise how much bother the wrist was giving me, everything has taken a back seat as my shoulder is just soo bad. But, the brace has taken away the ache and that it a very good thing, I'm grateful for small mercies  have a good weekend all X

    Hi Sticky and Pepperflo,
Thankyou both I'm ok, the splint is really helping me and I'm glad something is!, my shoulder however is off the scale with pain  its set the ribs off too, I got to sleep eventually at 5am having been up all night, the oromorph didn't help at first but by 4am I could take another dose, and I got some sleep. I've not long woken and feel a bit groggy, so off to bed soon, just wanted to say I'm ok, the wrist brace is helping and I'll ring my Rheumy tomorrow. Love and a hug () x

Try warm cabbage leaves. If you heat a cabbage leaf up in microwave and wrap it round your wrist or place on shoulder it will help ease the pain x
