We don't get our plastic bottles collected, which annoys me as we have to take them to the recycle bin at the supermarket.

I've got a black one for ordinary waste, a brown one for garden rubbish, and green one for glass/ metal cans. We also have a blue bag for newspapers, and a white bag for clothing collection.

Our bins are only collected every two weeks, so they get pretty smelly in hot weather.

Ive had one of my two green wheelie bins taken away and ordered basically to recycle, they say now we only have 4 of us living at home we shouldnt need 2 big wheelie bins i have 6 kids and most pop in during the week, with little kids and babies the rubbish mounts...
the refuse collectors took one bin away and im now ordered to recycle...
i had 2 black ones and now asked for a further 8, they come once a fortnight to empty recycle boxes, i have 2 great danes that go through 4 giant dog cans of food a day... so washed cans... loads of room needed...

    Black for household
Blue for paper/cardboard/cans/foil but NOT bottles
    Brown for garden waste

We have weekly collections, one week it's the black bin, the next it's the blue and brown. I have never had a particularly smelly bin and never an outbreak of flies. This could be because all my household waste is tied up in plastic bin bags (whch are, oddly enough, recycleable). My neighbours just tip their waste into the balck bin as it is. The cloud of flies from their bin is amazing, and disgusting. I have my black bin washed once a month. DD

    D.D.
Iv'e heard that when they get back to the depot, they are under so much time constraint, they just chuck everything together anyway, so we might be doing this for nothing anyway. Alanthemanc

I watched a glass recycling lorry one day, it turned up just after I had dumped my 36 bottles from one week-end (no, not really, it was actually 53). All the containers were lifted one by one and tipped out into the lorry, all in together. Why the separating then? DD

we have one large black bin for household waste, collected every other week.
One large green bin for recyclables, paper, certain plastics etc, collected on the alternate week to the black one..
One large brown bin for garden waste collected once a month I think.
Then we have a smaller food waste bin, with a caddy to use indoors, to be used with biodegradable bags..
We live in a block of four, the newest neighbour insists on putting food in the green recycling bin.. Me thinks it calls for a prison sentence, lol..

We get the two-weekly collection of alternate weeks for rubbish and recycling. Just the black and green bins here. Bottles have to be carted down to one of those recycling points.

Anyhow, I don't buy it - it's cr@p, literally. I have seen, personally, the 'green' recycling lorries emptying at our local landfill along with the refuse lorries on many occasions. It's a pretty well known fact round these parts. Not saying they all do, just that it does happen here which is a kicker if you sort stuff out, wash stuff and what have you, only for it to havge been a complete waste of time!

    Hi

We only got 2 bins, one green for garden waste, other grey one for general waste...We have two bluje boxes, one for paper and other for glass and tins...I also do the plastic recycling myself and find it strangely theraputic (daft I know)....
I wouldnt mind us having designated boxes/bins for plastic/cardboard but having said that we havent got a lot of room to house such things...

Today was day one of my first fortnightly recycling collection... guess what???? they didnt bother taking it!! they said i had glass bottles in it... i have emailed the chap concerned with recycling and even took photos, 2 black boxes filled with 'clean' empty dog food tins, empty plastic milk and bottled water bottles also daily papers and papers of tins etc, and used black sack with those that didnt fit right in the boxes, laid the 4 glass bottles on top of the lid on box... said they were glass so wouldnt take it.... they make me sick! so after i have complianed with photographic evidence to back me up they are sending someone to get within 24 hours and i got an apology!

Don't have time to mess about, so I dispose of things sensibly when it suits me ...if we need a trip to the tip, that is what we do. No penalties here if you only use 1 bin so what is the big deal everywhere else?
As mentioned it all ends up together anyhow.

The streets are a constant disgrace with all the bags and boxes flapping around so I don't want to contribute to that.

    1 vote = 1 bin = 1 tidy house = 1 clear head for important stuff....
