Morning all,
I've got swelling of my thumb and the pad below.I've had this for a while now but yesterday it has decided to move round to the outside of my thumb. It's lumpy and looks bruised and/or varicous viens.
I know I haven't bumped it on anything.
It's my right hand and is driving me mad.
1st hospital appointment not long to go now 21st Oct.
Ijust wondered if any of you hand people get this or something similar.
Sorry folks to be complaining about something so stupid when you all have much bigger problems.
May

We all get odd swellings here and there and not all of them are arthritis-related. Who knows, kellerman? If it does not ease then mention it to the doctor/consultant, whichever you see first. Keep a note of it too, that will help prod your memory should it disappear. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I've had this quite a few times in my left thumb, but it goes away when the swelling goes down. I don't think it's anything to worry about, but if you are concerned then you should mention it. Hope this helps,

In my experience , thumbs and fingers are never trivial ; they blooming well hurt ! As others have said , strange lumps bumps and swellings ( sounds like a firm of lawyers ! ) , can be part and parcel of this disease but be sure to mention it to those with the training . Jillyb

    Hi All,
Thanks for your answers but I'm not really worried just fed up not being able to use it properly.I haven't been told what I have yet but might get tested when I go to hospital week on friday.
I know I have osteoporosis but lower back/shoulders/groin/hip/knees and feet GP says OA but i haven't had any tests so pure guesswork on her part or perhaps it's all in my head.
Will remind you all about pocket duties if you don't mind.
I started keeping a diary after being advised to do so by you clever folk as it's so easy to forget things.
    Thanks again for your support.

Hi May, just wanted to say that my fingers are exactly like that at times, you'd swear they were bruised but on closer inspection individual veins can be seen. There is a small piece on this very symptom in the medical section of Daily Express today and it does say that this is associated with arthritis. I hope you feel brighter soon and that they do some testing for you when you go to your appointment. Please don't think it's all in your head, that's just where Iwas a couple of weeks ago (along with lots of other people in here at some point I would imagine) but this pain we have is real.

    Hi May,

Sore hands are a nuisance and not trivial because they can make life really tricky. I get swelling in my thumb too. Have you got a rheumy nurse that you could ring and ask for advice- I often feel that they give us more commonsense information than the consultants.
Hope it's feeling more comfortable soon.
    Blessings

    Hi Star and Dibdab,
Thanks for your helpful replies. Sorry I haven't answered before now but have had no computer since Tuesday.
I have nobody I can contact yet as my first appointment isn't until the 21st so have only ever seen my GP who really doesn't seem to know or care.
Typing with one finger is driving me mad.Nothing seems to make any difference.I don't think I'd be so bothered if it was my left hand.
Anyway not long to go now before I might get some answers.
This forum has been a godsend to me as getting all these perculiar things and thinking I'm imaganing it and then finding out other people get it too really helps.
    Thanks again Love May
