It could well be connected valval: all nap did was turn my tongue into a furry yellow mat but that is still an oral-type problem. I guess it's one of the trade-offs that we arthritics have to make: is the side effect worth the benefit? I wish you well. DD

It never did anything for my pain and I regularly get cold sores I think due to MTX so cant help you there xx

Cold sores are a virus stored in the body and maybe when you take NSAIs they probably change or lower your immunity and you get an outbreak. Maybe its just because you have started on them and your body's not used to it yet - anyway I hope so. My friend says hers come out with stress so maybe that has played a part as well. wishyou well x

    I don't take naproxin so I don't know.
Just hope that it is a coincidence and the cold sore goes soon.

Hey - I have been on naproxen on and off over the last 2 years and have never had any cold sores but because naproxen is an NSAID so by its nature it causes ulceration, tearing and bleeding (hence why it can cause stomach ulcers too). Like with stomache ulcers it is probably a rare side effect so sorry to hear you have that,

    Hope this is helpful,

    Beccy
