This is now 3 nights in a row that I literally haven't slept and I haven't even been napping during the day. Can't figure out why at all but feel shattered especially since I had 2 lots of dhc pain meds + my amitryptelene yet still no sleep and still pain and discomfort. I know pain doesn't help but normally I get a few hours and can cope with that much but this is bordering on ridiculous. Anyone got any ideas or should I try a mallet :cry:

    Hi Theresa
I'm so sorry and can really sympathis with you. Sorry cant really offer much in the line of suggestions. I had a decent nights sleep last night but previous to that i had about 4 where I barely closed my eyes.
    The thing is I've pinpointed the reason....with me its stress {all these appts that are coming to nothing}
You dont know why? There is probably not any point in suggesting all the usual things to you....I'm sure you've tried everything ...just sending (((((())))))) and saying that i do know how you feel.
    Love

    Theresa,

It is horrible with no sleep, i know that feeling.. maybe your body is overtired and you need to try and relax and set the scene before trying to get some sleep.
Hot milk, warm bath, read book, soft music and that head has to be clear of thoughts otherwise your brain won't shut down, so any worries write them down put them under your pillow and deal with it when you wake up..
We could send someone round to put you to sleep if you like
    Hope you get there luvie..xx

Diverting your attention might help. The more you lie there focusing on the fact that you are awake the harder it is to drop off. I lie there doing my alphabet lists (boys' names, two syllables, no abbreviations, girls' names ending in 'a', car manufacturers, tree names, anything you can think of) or if that doesn't work I get up and go and read. I don't watch the TV as that is too stimulating, neither will I make a cuppa. I often nibble some lettuce too - that is a natural soporific and can help you to gently nod off - it won't affect the meds either. DD

Oh Theresa, am sorry you are having a rough time sleeping. Am unable to mention anything other that already mentioned.
Unfortunately I dont find they work too well and the mallett helps!!

Seriously, sorry cant come up with anything, was up at 3 myself

Hope you are able to get some rest and sleep comes to you soon. Try and do all the incredibly relaxing things today, go on pamper yourself. Its worth a try

Oh gosh poor you, that must be hellish not getting a sleep for 3 nights now.
Im guessing youve tried all the things that spring to mind such as relaxing music, milky drinks....What about lavender oil on your pillow, they reckon that can induce sleep? If it was me id be dreading going to bed, hence the stress factor...
Hope tonight you get some shut eye...

It sounds tough, Theresa. There's another thread towards the bottom of the page - 'I need a good night's sleep - any suggestions?'. Maybe something on there might help?

I hope you had a better night Theresa, I was thinking of you as I was up most of the night myself. I'll be ok once I've had my shoulder op next week and can go back on my meds. You mentioned you are on amitriptyline? I am too, I take 20mg and am normally out for the count but if you're in a lot of pain it still wakes me up, so I'm going to ask the Rheumy next time I see her if I can increase the dose. Is that something you could do? I'd suggest having a chat with either your GP or Rheumy and get them to review your meds. No sleep is miserable, sending you love and hugs (((((()))))) X

My Gp said i could increase my dose of amitriptyline up to 70mg wether that can happen for everyone i don't know, but if i needed to up my dose i ring through to the doctors for a telephone appointment to ask gp before i took it upon myself to increase dose..
Hope you managed to get some sleep, any consolation i had a pretty rubbish night too..
