Blue Badge and Employment Help

Hi all,

More help please.

I've just been turned down for a blue badge which is disappointing considering that I've had osteoarthritis in my ankle for 7 years now. The ankle replacement is still settling but I have a lot of pain walking and uneven ground or downhill slopes are very hard to cope with. Does anyone have any experience of the appeal process - ideally a knockout letter template please ? I really need the badge to get preferred parking at the office since even our OH people agree that walking down 6 floors isn't good.

On the work front, I'm getting vibes that they're trying to get me out. My job changed in January 2011 and means much more travel, usually long haul to Asia and S America. Unfortunately, since my op in May, I'm currently on rehab which has got 4 weeks to go and then they expect me to work as normal but that is still a way off. My concern is that they are treating me as someone with an inconvenient injury rather than a disability (unless my ankle grows back!). Any advice please.

Thanks,

Rob.

With regards to your Blue Badge, make an appointment to see your GP and explain that you applied for a BB and just ask them to update their notes with regards to your symptoms.

When I applied it came back rejected, so i went to speak to my GP and he explained that even though all my hospital results etc were there, it was rare for the to look at them, so he just updated my notes with my symptoms (I have inflam arth of the wrists & knees).

I then contacted the council and said my gp had updated and they reapplied and I was successful

    Good luck :D

The GPs in my pct aren't allowed to support blue badge applications. I suspect the reason you haven't been awarded one is because you've had an ankle replacement and they don't give them out for conditions that will/should improve and aren't deteriorating. Tough I agree. What you need to prove is that you won't get any better and might get worse.

I am only commenting on the issue of you getting turned down for a blue badge which does not seem fair at all from what you have said about your condition. When I applied for mine it was just a case of calling the county council, them asking me a dozen or so questions, them sending me the form to sign and asking for a fee for making the blue badge, me sending back mugshot and it was back in my hands within 2-3 weeks. I dont know anything about the appeal process for this but im sure someone must be able to advise you.

Good luck with the work issues...
