I am due to start taking Hydroxychloroquine and I was wondering if many people found the side effects bad? I am particularly concerned with hair loss. Thanks for your help.

I've taken both this and methotrexate for over 10 years. Both say they can cause hair loss. I do notice the odd one on my pillow and probably a few more when I wash it and I think it hasn't as much body as it used to but that's it. Nothing anyone else would notice. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello, have you just joined? I don't recognise your name, sorry. If you have it's nice to meet you. I think it's worth remembering that just because a side effect is listed that does not guarantee its appearance. I am on injected meth and not losing any more hair than I would reasonably expect for my age. Everyone is different, however, in how they react to the meds. I sincerely hope the hydroxy brings you some relief. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I take hydroxychloroquine,
The only problems i had were at the beginning which was nausea and generally feeling unwell, once my body got used to it though i was ok..
I have had no problems with hair loss or any other side effects mentioned really..
Hope it works well for you..xxTracyxx

Thanks stickywicket I am currently on methotrexate but it has stopped working, I haven't noticed a change to my hair so maybe I'll be fine on the other as well.0

I was only on it a few months last year, the only thing it did for me was loss of appetite and weight.. HOWEVER.... As we all state, we are all different. I do wish you the very best and lovely to meet you.

I'm on Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquinine too and I haven't found any real issues with side effects. My hair has kind of stayed the same as it was!
Only possible one is a slight feeling of nauseau if I take the HCQ without food or a glass of milk or something.
Fingers crossed you don't get any side effects0 -

Hi allyo, welcome to Arthritis Care, I'm taking Hydroxychloroquine at the moment, I have very, very thick hair and I've been loosing lots of hair since I've been and taking many meds (13 different ones!), I mean massive chucks!! My G.P said it was because of the mixture of meds. My poor hairdresser didn't know what to say when I started with her! She thought I was on chemo or she had done something when she washed my hair and there was handfuls of hair in the sink!! The only side effects I've had with the Hydro have been itching and fatigue,So nothing to drastic. I think different people have different side effects. Hope it helps you.0
