feel so awful but boss not understanding...

Haven't been diagnosed by specialist yet (seeing Dr Margeurie at Nuffield on 26th Oct) but CCP results came back 340 and RF abnormal plus joint pain and flu-like symptoms. GP says extremely likely it's RA.

I'm not having support from my boss its making it much harder, she doesn't understand and is getting irritated with me - I can't think clearly at work, I get head rushes, feel so weak, in pain, but she's someone who has never had time off sick so is not sympathetic. Don't know what to do. I have to wait til 26th Oct to see the Rheumatologist.

I want to give her information that includes the chronic fatigue to help her understand.
Can anyone help, or tell me how they handled their boss.
At my wits end

Poor you...is there an occupational health person at your work place, if so, then ask to be referred to s/he. Also get in contact with Access to Work they are wonderful and see if you need any work adjustments that can be made at work for your condition.

    Best of Luck

Can't offer any advice as I am new here and only learning myself about the help you can get but just wanted to say you are not alone!

I have the same symptoms and the same kind of boss! The attitude of 'if you aren't up to the job, you shouldn't be here'. I am signed off at the moment but she phones regularly (where's this, how do you do that..?) and I can hear the irritation in her voice. It's starting to stress me out.
Thank you for the link delboy, I will be having a look too!

    Thanks all x

WaggyTail - has the GP signed you off? I'm going to call him on Monday. As my boss isn't understanding I'm scared I'll lose my job if I take too much time off. I feel if the specialist signs me off it will silence my boss and she can't do anything then. But while I'm waiting for my apt. it's just so hard.

Take a look at this excellent looklet produced by the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society - it is called "When an employee has rheumatoid arthritis'.
It is aimed at employers & explains brilliantly about RA & fatigue etc.

    http://www.nras.org.uk/about_rheumatoid_arthritis/living_with_rheumatoid_arthritis/employment_benefits/when_an_employee_has_rheumatoid_arthritis.aspx

You can order free copies from the website or print them off. I got two & gave one to my boss. It is the best description of RA that I have found...all through it you will go, "That's me!".

    Good luck x

Victoria, yes it was my GP who signed me off and I am waiting on blood results coming back. I will have to see him again this week, and hope to get another sick line as I am still in a lot of pain, and the stronger painkillers are having a bad effect on my stomach.
Try to keep the chin up, it won't be long until you see the consultant.

Val I usually don't mind being phoned at home as nobody can cover my job when I'm off but I am being put under pressure to immediately return her calls (which I missed as I was asleep) when I really didn't feel up to it. Following good advice here, I am keeping a diary of everything.

Hi Waggy tail good idea log everything that goes on I do, the thnig is bosses can call you at home but it shouldn’t be to the level of harassment it could well come into the category if it keeps happening.
Also are you in a union at your works?, it would be a good idea if you were in one, if there isn’t one there I’d join one, you don’t need to tell them it’s your right, keep mum unless you really need to use them.
