Hello all, to friends old and new

It is freezing here today, which is a rare comment for me to make seeing as I am in a permanent hot sweat!!! I can feel the sleepiness creeping up on me and the stiffness is getting worse. Trying to reduce the pred doing alternate days on 5/2.5mg and finding it a little hard.

I am beginning to dread the really cold weather and the damp. So thought I would start a cheery thread. What makes you not hibernate during the winter months??

Here is my list

Good tv, they put better programs on during the winter months. Not to everyones taste but I do enjoy, the apprentice, x factor, downtown abbey etc

My lovely fire

A nice frost, makes the garden look pretty

Homemade soups

crumbles

Not having to get up and go out the door first thing in the morning

I never really want to hibernate. I do heartily dislike damp weather but quite enjoy frost, snow and especially lovely hoar frost. I don't much like it when it's too icy to get out but, as long as it's not, I love being wrapped up to the gills and getting out on a country, wheelchair-assisted walk (until I need to dislodge several layers to get to the loo) followed by a pub lunch hopefully where they serve mulled wine.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

This will be my first year of suffering with arthritis as i do now in the winter weather..
So i am unsure how it will affect me..I love the winter months of snow frost and crispiness, love sledging with the kids and building snowmen.. How i am going to be this year i do not know.. we shall see but i will try and remain enjoying the winter weather as me and the kids get excited for christmas..

I love a proper winter, last year's was excellent. I like the cold, the freshness of the air, the brightness of the sun when it deigns to show its face. I am aware that the OA will be more of a trial with the general damp and murk but as I cannot alter that it matters not. Bring on the frost and snow, please! DD

I forgot to say the dark means I can get into my pj's earlier!!! Which I love!!

Loving the suggestions!!! Pub lunches, snow and crisp air. Sledging!!! I love the lads to go, I am relieved I no longer have to accompany them. We live right next to a park with a massive hill, that people come for miles to sledge down. So its always our house the lads come to, to warm up. Itmakes the roads treachourous, though. I am housebound when it snows unless I have someone with me. Too slippy for me. I love to see it though.

I wonder what my kitten will make of the snow?? Considering she mews at me to stop the rain, and goes to a different door to see if it is raining their as well, it should be vey interesting!!!

Love to see the snow, and frost, makes for great photos
I love being wrapped up too but I hate all the energy that getting unwrapped afterwards takes

Gotta admit I'm much more of a summer person :grin: Love the heat

Oooooooh yes, tv programmes, I'm addicted to a lot of american shows on Sky channels and they've all started up again. Ummmm home made soup, I was just thinking about making some this week, casseroles with dumplings, naughty I know, but an occasional treat, crumble, sponge pudding with custard. I love the frost (as long as it's not slippery) because it's dry and crisp it's only damp they buggers me up, snow is good, when the grandchildren get a snow day from school I go to see them sledging, then home for hot chocolate, yum. Looking forward to xmas, seeing the grandchildren open their presents and the excitement they have about it all. Winter has a lot to offer if you wrap up warm, I used to like hot weather but now it just makes me feel ill.

I always get ready to hibernate in this sort of weather it's safer for me to stay in doors unless my OH takes me out. The cold makes my bones ache like mad and also the ice could be dangerous to me on slip could cost me a broken bone! So when the cold of Auturmn and winter come I make like a hedgehog and hibernate!!

I used to love the winter, snow ball fights and building snowmen last year was so pretty with the snow I got some lovely pictures but walking in it was so difficult. It started off quite deep here so it was hard to lift my feet up enough and then when it melted and refroze I had several falls.

But I wouldnt wish it away for anything, last year my grandaughter was only 6 months but she thought it was great and laughed at the snow family her mum and aunts made. I look forward to her playing in it this year.

I love looking out on a morning to see crisp white snow undisturbed just a few bird and fox prints in it, how peaceful that is, and I love watching the flames of my log fire as I cosy up indoors.

I live near a park and the trees look stunning covered in frosy with a hint of mist hanging over the grass- almost makes it worth leaving home on a cold morning! Also love to see the enchantment on the faces of the 5 year olds I teach when we get a proper snow fall-making snowmen together then back in to school for hot chocolate and a biscuit to thaw out-pure magic and worth braving the cold for.

Amazing how appreciative all of our replies are. Despite all our pain and suffering we all appreciate the little things that we probably never had time to before.

I have really enjoyed reading the responses, it is very encouraging. I love a nice log fire, so cosy.
