Question for those with OA and inflammatory arthritis

I was wondering whether the cold and damp affects the joints affected by OA and inflammatory arthritis the same way?

Just wondering as my joints especially certain ones, really hurt with the cold and when it is damp. Interestingly its both types of arfur joints that ache this way. Is this the same for everyone??

I hate this particular type of pain more than the hot feeling you have broken something pain. The ache is relentless and has been known to make me shed a tear.

Am curious to hear other peoples experiences.

All the joints are worse when it's damp and yep, it's a horrible and relentless pain..
My OA joints are still affected worse than the RA ones though.. Especially the knees, but they could have both, maybe that is why :???:

The weather never affected the PA but now with the OA it's very different. The knees and ankles move from comfortably ghastly to untenable and un-manageable when the low pressure weather hits. I do mind but it doesn't matter as there is nothing I can do about it. DD

Damp weather was always a killer for my RA. Cold doesn't make any difference. Once OA kicked in nothing changed for me.

I have not really noticed the cold affect me too much but that is because my symptoms weren't so bad this time last year, i am sure i will notice something when the cold sets in, so will wait and see..

This will be my first winter with some sort of Arfer - not sure which yet as undiagnosed. I am really dreading it as live in a far flung part of N.Scotand on side of a very steep hill so as worried as much about another year of ice and slipping as the effects on joints. Hands in particular as they have been getting worse daily and the thought of severe cold on them is quite scary but hoping it won't actually make much difference! Mat x

Today has been a very bad day for my ankle and knees and wrist so can only blame the cold.

Thanks for all the replies. It is interesting to see how the cold and damp affects us all.

Cris, your reply made sense to me. I have raynauds and the circulation in my feet is poor. I only know when my feet are cold if my ankles ache, so that may be what the problem is. I am waking earlier and earlier each morning with awful ankle pain. The ache is horrible, you just have to get up. It disappears during the day to come back with a vengeance of an evening and make me snappy.

My other joints are playing up as well. I managed to get out today, for a short walk but came back all stiff and in real pain.

Reminder to self, must learn to toughen up!!!
