    Hi Hubie

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I am sorry I can not help as I have no experience of these ops. Good luck with your pre ops tomorrow and I hope the op date isn't too long away.

    Take care

Hello hubie, it's nice to meet you although I am sad that you have had to find us. I had two large ops on my right knee only 18 months apart, in 02 and 03, and because no-one knew I had arthritis at that time needless to say they achieved little apart from cleaning out the joint. I don't mind surgery, it's meant to help and more than often than not it does. I think one of the biggest 'troubles' with surgery is the recovery time: it is often longer, harder and more trouble than the 'professionals' would have one believe! I wish you well and I hope it makes all the difference for you. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I'm sorry, Hubie. It's tough when ops come along in quick succession. I hope this will have a more lasting effect for you. Is it same again, a THR or what? Try not to worry about the pre-op. There's nothing invasive apart from a blood test. I hope it goes smoothly and quickly for you.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Welcome to the forum, Im sorry you are having more ops but hopefully you will be improved after. I DO understand having had 8 ops in 2 years, but you do cope and you do have us here to do pocket duty with you, you will be fine tomorrow, just take a list of all your previous health and medical issues and any special help you may need in hospital. Let us know how you got on (((()))) Linda

yeah lookin forward 2 the hospital smells and the food!!! Its not the pain of thye op after that bothers me its this time they r rushing it all through no waiting about. All they r tellin me is i need a urgent M.R.I cos the bone is very weak and the metal ions in my blood is very high. My own doctor has told me i dont hav any choice and the M.R.I is 2 look incase there is a bone tumor. It is good that i hav found this forum as it is good 2 talk 2 people who understand. Thank u all for the kind words.

    Hi Hubie,

I'm sorry that you have to have another op already, not news any of us wants to hear. Lucky though that they have caught the problem and are going to act quickly. I have one THR and one resurface-replacement.

A THR is a bigger op than a plain resurface, however it shouldn't be as big as a revision of a THR. That is one of the advantages of a resurface - if it needs revision, there should plenty of your own bone left to set the artificial hip into.

Are you in a lot of pain now? How is your mobility affected?

There are advantages and disadvantages to having a second hip op - you know what to expect but at least you can start planning to make you rehab phase as trouble free as possible.

This forum kept me sane in the lead up, during and after off my hip op and I'm sure it will help you loads too.

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
