I had a THR 7 weeks ago. It has gone well so far and the arthritic pain has disappeared. I still get pain in my hip from the op, some days worse than others. When does the pain stop completely?

Hi, I've not had any surgery for my athritis, except carpel tunnel and that doesn't count! I have had surgery though, and for me the worst part of the pain would have been immediatly afterwards, but the hospital were very good with pain relief, so a lot of it, I can't really remember!!! I had a nice morphen pump, to press as soon as I felt pain, apparently I was sitting up in bed with my finger on the button and a big smile on my face, muttering a few word every now and them!!! They wouldn't let me bring it home
I'm sure that you will be give good pain relief but I can understand your worries - its a big thing to go through, but everyone was very kind and explained the process before the op.

Now that is a piece of string question! Everyone is different, given what has been done to you it's no wonder things are still twanging away every now and again. Rest as much as you can, exercise as and when you can, keep up with the dullers and I hope it eases as time passes. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Mike,
I have not had a THR, I can only speak for Total Knee Replacements post op and I had pain for a good few months. Everyone is different. It does go in the end, well it did for me and then I had another TKR. Same again regarding post op pain but I have no regrets at all - The new knees eventually became my very good friends.
Quite a few people have had THR's on the forum, so I am sure when they see your thread, they will reply.

I've had two THRs & I honestly don't remember much post-op pain. I do, however, have two friends who've had the op and both had quite a lot of pain for weeks, if not months, after. I know that one of them didn't bother much with the prescribed exercises and I strongly suspect the other overdid things from the start.
Do you have a follow-up physio appointment? They'd be the people to ask. Even if you don't, the hospital might be happy to arrange one.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

My surgeon told me it can take up to 2 years for a THR to settle and you can still get pain during this time. I had my THR over 2 years ago and do still get aches in the thigh.

I didn't have a lot of pain after my THR I did have a problem with being allergic to the stitches that should have dissolved and didn't.I think everyone is different Just hang in there and I'm sure all will be well0
