After my appt: with rheumy this morning I was full of hope for some pain relief, but having Googled butrans pain patches I was having second thoughts so I looked up fentanyl and it seems the problems are pretty much the same with both, nausea, vomiting, terrible sweats and tiredness, I already get sweats and tiredness and don't need sickness as well. I don't know what to do now, has anyone had any experience of either of these. It seems as well that they're a bit hit and miss with the pain relief. Tramadol works for me but has bad effects on my digestive system and co-dydramol aren't really strong enough, co-codamol, too much codeine, makes me feel ill and constipated and dyhydrocodeine make me fall asleep and feel woozy so I don'y really know what to do, any suggestions. Thanks,

Sue x

I was on butrans and reacted really seriously to it. Haven't tried fentanyl yet - that is my next option.

Hi, I haven't tried pain patches, but I do take MST, which is slow release morphine. It did make me woozy and a little nauseeous to start with. I took anti sickness meds to cope, and the effects wore off eventually.

I would never have considered something like that normally, but I was in agony and had to get on with my life, children's duties etc. So I tried it and I manage. It doesn't completely take the pain away, I don't think anything does, but it helps.

    Just a thought.

I was on the patches few years ago for something else..
They worked great for me, but felt dozy and lethargic on them.. was ok for a while then i started getting a rash from them and bad reaction if i was late changing it..so was eventually taken off them..I know for some they work great so may be worth trying it if GP has suggested it, see how you get on..
You find alot of the side effects don't necessarily affect people , they are written down so you can be aware of them incase of any problems..
Let us know how you get on..

Well not too much to add here I found them effective for the pain but I felt drowsy on them but reacted to them with a severe rash within a week of trying it out. My GP did say that if you tolerate them they are really good but many poeple suffer with a rash with them so have to stop.
    good luck whatever you decide

Hi I am on the 10's with the tablet form for severe breakthrough pain.
Have worked ok for a few years but recently tablets were added as I am getting more pain, but the higher dose knocked me for six.

When i started on 5's I was fine, they have made me feel drowsy but nothing major. As with any drug we all react differently. I havent had any other probs with them, although i do have sensitive skin and psoriasis.

    Hope this info helps.
