Frustrated

Hi All

I dunno, just as I seem to be getting used to soreness and stiffness associated with the OA I have in my hands, knees and feet; as well as a left shoulder AC joint that has been bugging me for a few weeks. I now have to contend with a painful left ankle that's been bugging me for a few days and nights now, even when I'm trying to sleep.

The paindullers don't seem to do much, as times I think they're a waste of time – but I soon realise otherwise if I forget to take any ... lol. Oh well, just a few weeks til my next rheumy appointment.

This getting old business ain't no lark ... lol  and hey!!! I'm not even 52 yet!!! lol

Hope you're all keeping well.

Scozzie

It is the relentlessness of it all that grates at us most, I think. Everything grinding and twanging away, day in, day out, it is tiring, demoralising, it saps not only our physical strength but also our emotional one. The dullers will only remove a certain edge but as you say, you soon realise when you haven't taken them! Rest as much as you can, when you can, and I hope things ease soon. DD

    hi Scozzie

it does get very frustrating and pain can enlarge all your feel.

the pain killers should make it manageable even if they don't remove it so the fact yours aren't makes me wonder if you need different ones or an add in maybe?

might be worth going back to your gp and asking for a bit more help either via a change of tablets or something to help back them up. good luck and i hope it will soon get easier for you. Cris x

    Hi scozzie

Perhaps you could try an ankle support for a few weeks, see if that helps.

Sorry that you are being targeted in several joints at the moment, hope the rhummy people can help when you see them.

Meanwhile i expect you have to just keep taking the pills and rest whenever you can. Hope tomorrow will be a little easier for you.
    take care

The others are right, scozzie. It's the sheer relentlessness that gets you down both physically and emotionally. Just hang on in there until the rheumatology appointment.

It does get annoying when you have your painkillers and the grinding pain just carries on. It doesn't help when nobody in your family understands the pain your going through. But this family does and I'm glad we can come here and they understand what your feeling. Hope the pain eases soon Scozzie.

    Hi Scozzie...

How are you feeling today..?? any better??

This arther certainly tests us at times and like you i my pain seemed to spread from one joint to another..can be quite scary, like you say the tablets just take the edge of things and some days when you are really aching and uncomfortable it can get you down.. try the supports as sticky suggested i use them when i need to i have them for knees, elbows, wrists and ankles lol.. i have a varied collection, they help me on the not so bad days or if i have to go out i will use them, i have also used deep heat too which helped, but i know for others it didn't.. hot and cold compress too can sometimes work...Might be a case of trial and error till you can find something to make you feel a bit better..
Your rheumy appointment is soon so hopefully he may be able to help some more..
Keep us informed on how you are..

Thanks for all the advice folk. I will look into supports, already have two for my lower arms - but that's mainly to do with the tendonitis that flares up from time to time.

I have also made an appointment with the podiatrist in a few weeks time, which will be a week before I'm due to see the rheumy next.

One thing I need to buy is thermal socks for work ... my toes have been very cold this week ... anyone got any suggestions?

I have been feeling a bit better, but I'm sick of standing on sore feet all the time ... my job is that of a skilled manual type and requires standing or walking for most of the day.

Hopefully the podiatrist will help a lot, scozzie. Meanwhile, you need shoes that really support your feet well - good trainers or lace ups are the best.

Thank you Sticky, I wear my old hiking boots at work - because, apart from my current hiking boots, they're the most comfortable footwear I own, or at least they were.

Ah, in that case how about 2 pairs of socks to keep your feet warm? A thin inner and thicker outer. Much warmer than one thick pair & hiking boots usually have enough room. By the way, the term 'thermal', as applied to socks, is meaningless. There's no standard. I'd suggest a thin, cotton inner and normal hiking or walking socks for the outer.

mmm ... that sounds like a good idea sticky, and as I already have several pairs of thin I don't normally wear it'll save me money too! I'll give that a go!
