I thought solpadol are a mixture of paracetamol and codine. That might for how you feel. Have you read the information sheet that comes in the packet with them?
The best thing to do if it is worrying you, is to talk either to your doctor again, or the chemist, but get some advice as you may need a different strength or change of drug. Hope you get it sorted out. Love Sue xxx

    Hi Stephen

As I understand it, Solpadol are the same as cocodamol. Which ones are you on? Solpadol caplets, capsules or effervescent tablets? You are meant to avoid alcohol when on this drug. Do not take this medication with any other products containing paracetamol

They can cause drowsiness, Constipation, Nausea and vomiting,
Dizziness, Lightheadedness, Shortness of breath, Confusion.,
Mood changes, Skin rash, Dry mouth.

Have you been on them a long time and are you taking the maximum dose daily?? If so, then a visit to your gp would be advisable to say they are not really agreeing with you.

Hi Stephen, nice to meet you.

I have been on co codamol 30/500 for years now, I remember they did make me feel a bit wooly at first, but that did not last long. Some people are more sensitive to codeine than others, so the dose may need to be dropped to 8/500, or to try a different form of pain relief.
Have a word with your GP or Practice Nurse, see what they say. Unfortunately, most, if not all medication, have some side effects and pain relief is a bit of a try it and see what works, which can take some time to get right.

my Gp started me off on 8/500 and I was on them for awhile but they did not last for long so he moved me onto the 15/500 but they never really touched the pain so now on the 30/500 been taking them since jan anything from 2 to 6 a day depending on good or bad day. I understand there were going to be side effect and I was warned by the doctor what I could expect from them..but this is all good and well but am more concerned about the addictive nature of them.

This med can be addictive and if you are finding you are having problems with that, best chat to your gp about it, next week when you see him.

I had these in the past and they were ok, but l too went 'out of my tree' on em.

Backed off a bit and only took two at NIGHT and one in the day until l got used to them.

I am now on Bu-trans pain patches which do not give me that 'hit' of the drug or the desperation for them once the 4 hours is up.

    Love

I'm these cocos too and fortunately don't have any trouble with them apart from a touch of constipation now and again, but I have meds for that when it happens. There are alternatives but your GP is best placed to advise you. I guess it's the trade-off, isn't it? Are the side effects worth the value of the pain relief? It's not easy. DD

I take these 30/500 cocodamols but usually just one at a time in the daytime (every 4 hours) coupled with a plain paracetamol tablet(codeine is more effective with paracetamol than alone...according to my GP who is fabulous). This equals the 15/500 dose you were having.

Two 30/500 pills do equal drowsy, trying to string sentence together behaviour at first (which is why I only take one at a time when at work). BUT..at night when I am going to bed anyway (or not talking)...then I gladly take two...plus it is a nice sleep aid.

I personally have found that dihydrocodeine plus paracetamol is better than 30/500 cocos. Esp for work when I need to be alert. Less bung on bowels too, if you get my drift. My GP has given me 30mg dihydrocodeine tablets. I can take one or two (dep on pain) with 2 ordinary paracetamol for maximum effect.

My GP seems to be 'DRUGS MASTER'. I am sure she is younger than me (I am 38) and she has a real handle on which drug can be taken with what & how much it might zonk you out. I always ask her....if you were me, what would you take.....

In my humble opinion & experience..the pain killers in order of stength, zonk out & effectiveness are (IN MY OPINION):

    Cocodamol 30/500
    Dyhydocodeine 30mg plus 500mg paracetamol
    Tramadol 50mg

So...I have a job....I take cocodamol to get me through. When I am not at work & it doesn't matter what I say (and I am in pain obv)...I would take dyhydro....

If it was really BAD....I would have 2X tramadol

That is just me. I have mild inflam arthritis. I have 2 small kids plus job and manage most of time. A lot of you reading this will not be able to work at all so your pain & experience will be so different. This is just what I do...if it helps someone..great.

They are addictive, which is well known, but, as has been said, there is always a trade off with many drugs that offer some relief from pain. I used to worry about it, but, after so long, they are still reasonably effective, coupled with pregabalin and amitryp. There are so many combinations that can be tried, as long as your GP gives the time and consideration that you need.

I was given this drug after an op on my prostate whilst in hospital it worked for pain much better than Tramadol so asked my GP if I could go on this for my arthritis pain and he has agreed

So far the only main effect is some constipation but this seems to negate the side effects of my other drugs (methotraxate/allopurinol/warfarin) which give me the runs so a bonus.

I take two before bedtime and one every 8 hrs during the day as does make one a tad light headed and wooosey.

    Hi Stephen,

the jump might have been to big for your system. Ask doc if he can prescribe two different tablets so you can take 1 x 30/500 and 1 x a lower dose ie a 5/500 or a 15/500.
