Good Morning,
My 93 year old mother suffers from osteoarthritis in her knee. Can anyone recommend ways of easing the pain? Has anyone got experience of - Lewtress rose hip extract 7500mg, Litozin rose hip, Celabolin, Capsaicine, Voltoral?

Ian

Hello, it's nice to meet you Ian, and I feel for your poor mum, how very miserable. I have two sorts of arthritis in both knees but the OA pain far outweighs the other in terms of severity. It is a hot pain, I feel as though someone is pushing a hot needle through my joints, from one side to the other. I tried rosehip and other natural rememdies a while ago, before diagnosis, and found them not very helpful, but people do vary in what works and what doesn't. Some swear by heat, a wheat bag or a hot water bottle supplies that, and I know of one or two on here who use the chilli cream (as I call it!) Voltarol is good but I believe it should not be used in conjunction with other forms of pain relief. Does your mum have paracetamol, co-codamol or an anti-inflammatory? I have to go now for a shower (my mum is asleep, it's a good time) but I will be back later.

I wish you both well. DD

    Hi Ian

I am sorry to hear about your mum's OA in her knees. It is a horrid pain as I well know, having had both knees replaced but I am a lot younger than your mother. Besides pain killers and inflammatory meds prescribed by the gp, I found that placing a heated ( in microwave) wheatbag on knees was very soothing.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hi Ian. I think we all seem to go through phases of trying out natural remedies but then end up on prescribed meds.

Voltarol worked for me for years but I'm talking about the pills as prescribed by my GP, not the cream you rub on.

As others have said, heat pads - or ice (Think a packet of frozen peas) - can help but, if she's in a lot of pain, maybe it's time to have a word with her GP. There is quite a bit of stuff out there, mostly variations on a theme but some seem to work for some and others for others. We're all different. I hope you can find something that will help her.

Hi Ian,I have tried Litozen capsules,Ginger root capsules, turmeric capsules and chilli cream.Unfortunately none of those worked for me.Personally frozen peas wrapped in tea towel was best along with dihyrocodeine etc.I will be getting TKR done in 3weeks.I think GP would be best to advise given your mum's age, can't see them prescribing anything too strong.Best of Luck.xx

Thankyou for all you comments - at present frozen peas, paracetamol and voltoral cream seem to be helping. Fingers x.
