Hi Arlene
Oh dear that does not sound too good.
Cortisone injections can be painful but a lot of that can depend on the skill of the person administering the injection. After receiving the injection you need to rest the arm but ok to perform daily activities like dressing and so on. You should avoid any overhead activities and heavy lifting. I expect you know all this. Were you given the injection to improve inflammation in the shoulder? You do appear to be having to take a lot of painkillers for the pain. I do hope the pain lessens very soon.

I've had 3 cortisone injections, well 5 if you want be accurate! (2 in each wrist and 1 in the bursa of my hip. None of these where very painful, but they did give me a local before each main injection. All worked well except my left wrist, which worked for a few weeks and then I was back to normal. I have carpel tunnell syndrome and had to have the small op to release the nerve in my left hand. That worked and wasn't painful when they did it, but hurt for 1 night.
Some people react differntly to others and some it works for but not all. I'd do it all again though if I needed to.
Funnily enough, my niece had to have 2 courisone injections for tennis elbow, both given by the same doctor, the first one didn't hurt much but the second one did!

When you consider what has been done then it's no wonder that soreness results: it's akin to pressure-washing a patio I guess, after all joints weren't designed to have needles inserted and stuff squirted! I hate the after-procedure discomfort, it is in a class all of its own. Rest the joint as much as you can rallymad, and let's hope it all settles soon. Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought the pain was the after procedure pain, but it doesn't look like it has been successful. Don't know if am imagining it but the other shoulder is now getting twinges, the actual injection was a doddle, just the usual pre-jitters regarding the injection, but am feeling it just as sore at times. Oh well back to the drawing board, got physio on Thurs will see what she thinks.0

Give it time, Rallymad, as they are not instantaneous things, they can take a while. I do hope it helps - my fingers are crossed! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Rally. They can be hit and miss. The first ones I had in my knees were absolute bliss after a short while. I made sure I rested the knees for a good forty eight hours after to let the stuff work it's way in.. Sadly they only lasted just over a month but boy was it ever worth it. My knees hadn't felt so good for about twenty years, lol.
I had them done again a couple of months after that along with eight facet joint ones in the spine, they did nothing..
I would gladly let them try them again whenever they wanted, even if I only got a week out of them..
I really hope it does you some good but don't give up hope for any future ones if they don't.
Best of luck.. Take it easyMe-Tony
