Update & discharged....

Morning All,
I really appreciated your replies last time so hope you don't mind me posting an update & asking your advice....
I went back to the Dr & X-rays came back fine, which is great. I asked about the query on the blood test results but he insisted that all was fine and it was just 'small print' and that I have been discharged by the specialist.
All well & good but I still have the pains. They said it is probably joint hypermobility - I've been given a leaflet & googled it but not too sure if it applies to me. The consultant said I've a little extra movement in a couple of places, which is fair enough & I can touch my toes but I've never even done so much as a backwards roll
I bruise fairly easily but thankfully never had any breaks/sprains before. I'm going to see a physio just to show me some exercises & how to move properly which is good, but I don't really feel this explains the pains etc that I experience.
Anyway, I'd usually just think fair enough & get on with it, but am a little concerned as I've read on here that people often have problems getting diagnosed etc & just wondered what your opinions are? I don't want to keep barking up the wrong tree but equally don't want to dismiss it only to find out way down the line that perhaps it is arthritis related & I haven't had it diagnosed sooner.
Thanks for reading & hope you all have a lovely weekend xx

I think the best thing for you to do is to keep a diary of symptoms, what helps and what doesn't, tiredness levels, whether your sleep is disturbed by pain - all in all just monitor yourself. If things don't ease then return to your GP, with the diary, and the info in that may help point him towards what is gong on with you. Something doesn't sound right, but as to what it might be I don't have a clue. Keep in touch with us, New, we are empathetic about pain as we are all in it to one degree or another! Hi there
Perhaps you could also have a word with the physio when you see him/her and mention your aches and pains and ask what his/her views might be about it.
Out of interest what type of "specialist" did you see?

Thanks Elna, not sure about kind of specialist? Just told she was 'Dr' & rheumy consultant?
Didn't get off to a good start when they had my files confused with that of a 70+ yr old lady! and basically said as there was nothing for her to see there & then (had a few weeks of little/no pain) and my joints didn't hurt when she felt them, so nothing much going on, not ra & discharged but referred to physio.

Hi NewToThis
I have hypermobility syndrome and RA - your born with HS but generally unaware of what it means until you get some sort of pain. the trouble is you can move"too much" and can pull muscles and joints etc out of natural place and overcompensate some parts of your body for others. also as the ligaments etc move too much they get stretched and then dont do their job properly. So it is a good idea to get advice about how to move properly, what not to do etc etc
the other thing is HS is often confused with Marfans syndrome and you may want to look that up. dont think the RA is connected at all to HS - just my bad luck or bad genes!!!!
Good luck with your investigations andif you are still in pain and not happy then askto be referred for a second opinion or different hospital which is your right. Dream Daisy's idea of a diary of symptoms, pains etc is really good and make a note of how much physical activitiy youve done in a day ie if you walked a lot and then got pain etc
Wishing you all the bestCAROL (Cacyhi)0 -
Many thanks Carol & I'll definately google it!
I had been keeping a diary but wasn't asked for it at last appt so stopped - must restart! Def seems to be worse when exercising - would this be HMS do you think?
Best x0 -
They won't ask for a diary as I suspect they won't be aware you have been keeping one. Just take it with you and present it, then they have to read it! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi NewToThis
If I am right you were suspected of having RA, is this still the path they are taking,or you getting know where with them.
Its does seem hard to get these diagnosis, like DD say take along a diary of your pain, and dont leave till they read it.
I do wish you well with it all, and please let us know how you get on.
Oh and how did your teaching course go.Love

Hi I agree totally with DD, i am going through this myself and although a diagnosis isnt the be all and end all it would put my mind at rest also.
I would also ask to be refered to a specialist if thats what the drs believe you have. There is a proffessor in this field but i am unsure of the name of the hopital at present. google hypermobility specialist and you may find him there.
Good luck with your search and hope you are ok.

Many thanks all! I'll go to my next appt with my diary & hope I get somewhere. If not I might ask for a second opinion.
& thanks for asking Barbara - recently found out that I've definately got a place on the part time course I wanted rather than FT I had a place on before so all good0
