Having suffered fibro for 9 years, i am now awaiting a diagonises for OA, however i have noticed some members also have fibro...how do you know which condition is causing the pain in the same area's...I am totally confused if this is just a new fibro pain or it is OA in my knees

The pain is waking me up, the back of my knee is tender and slightly swollen above the crease of my knee in the back, I cannot put any weight on my leg and i have to move the knee joint with my hands when i need to bend it to sit down. The actual bone is clicking at the top of the knee joint

I am so confused and cannot wait for the results from the X ray and MRI

I think the term fibro refers to muscle pain, what you are describing sounds much more like OA. In my case the pain is like a red-hot needle being shoved through from one side of the joint to the other in both knees, the same in my ankles. The dullers don't have that much of an effect. My knees click and grind all the time, I don't notice it now. Gone are the days, however, when I could creep up on people - if it isn't the knees it's the sticks giving the game away! DD

    Hi Foggy
I can imagine how confused you must be, I dont have fibro, but the OA I have is a rotten gnawing pain...and like DD say the pain meds dont always work, hopefully you will get some answers from your x rays, I do wish you well with it all.
Sorry if you are new a very warm welcome from me to this lovely forum.
    Love

    HI Jano,

Be honest mine are very different feeling.... I wont have it I have got fibro but my rumo was about to tell me but for some reason I said if he was going to tell me I had fibro would he mind not.... he shut up and smiled....

Its a tenderness and pain in the actual muscles and where they join unlike the o which is centralized in the joint that has it if you see what i mean?

That knee... Jano i think you should go and see you gp if its got selling at the back. Just get it checked out flower.

Hope your results come through soon and they are helping you? Cris x

Hi, I have just been told by my GP that they think I have OA and fibro. I've had loads of tests, as they wanted to make sure that it wasn't something else like RA, but they came back negative. My Gp says that the pain I get sometimes, which is all over my body and the extreme fatugue, muscle pain etc. All point to firbro but I do have some OA in my hands and arm.
Its taken I think, over 2 years to get this far and along the way they have ruled out all sorts of things! Still, it would never surprise me if they didn't change their minds again!
LovE Sue. x x PS I seem to lose things all the time and forget. Find things in funny places, so fibro is a good excuse for me to get things wrong!!!

thanks guys for replying to my post. I think i have realised the difference this weekend, the pain has gone to both my knees and on the knee joint where the bone hurts and i know there is on muscle on the knee joint, but the sides hurt as well so that may be the fibro in the muscles...

Awful pain whatever it is called and I am fed up it is in both knees as it is affecting my ability to walk completely now..grrrrrrrrrr

Don't be afraid to use a stick or two when walking, they can make all the difference. If using just one then hold it in the opposite hand to the worst joint - it does ease the strain on the joint quite considerably. I prefer my elbow crutches as both knees and ankles are rubbish now and they offer greater support, but if going somehwere really posh I revert to my NHS pine sticks. (I can do glam with the best of 'em! ) DD

Hi dreamdaisy, I already use a nice black ergonomic stick in the opp side..i was given a lovely silver one from the hospital but bought this off the web, it folds down and the handle fits in lovely round my hands...I am considering buying its partner for the opp side, that way i will be well supported, but i find it hurts my shoulders with the fibro...lol... really cannot win either way can we...

I am glad to hear you already have one - it does sound smart! Sticks are there to aid balance to and give support, it's best if you can avoid 'leaning' on them as yes, that can get to the neck and shoulders. I was given a couple of very good lessons in stick/crutch usage by a physio, her main advice was to shorten my stride length, to stand as upright as possible and NOT to lean thro the stride. I am in stick heaven - I bought myself some lovely deep blue crutches the week before last, today I found a lovely lavender/lilac/pale blue pair. (not sure of the shade!) I am very easily pleased. DD

Hi foggyjano, As the others have explained and as I have both Fibromaliga and Osteoporosis I find it is most Fibro with muscle pain and Osteo for joint pain. I sometimes get both at the sametime which can be mega painful! It does work together I have got used to it, it just takes time.
