Gonna have to go back to the hospital on Monday to get this cast sorted. It's too tight across my shin and wow is it sore!!!! I've left a message on the casting room phone so they know I'll be there before they open the door!!!

Hi Sue,
that definitely sound like it needs to be changed. I hope you can get it comfortable for tonight and tomorrow but if it really kicks up tomorrow may be go to cas? you can't have them rubbing. Maybe its a bit swollen and elevating it will work?
Hey what colours you going for next Cris x0 -
I am almost crying thinking about how you must be feeling Sue, after what Ive just gone through. It was the pressure on my shin that did for me coz im all bone down there.
Ive learned never to ignore your instincts - when my last cast came off on Tuesday, which had been on for three weeks, I asked them if there was a sore on my heel and they said no. After the "infamous Bath" on tuesday night, after all the gunk had gone, it was clear that there was a pressure sore on the back of my heel. The GP loooked at it on thursday and said it was a good thing I wasnt left in that cast for another 3 weeks!
Its still sore to touch with a hard lump on the heel bone but luckily its not an open sore at the moment and is ok with the boot.
I must admit I thought you would only be having a cast on your foot not a whole leg cast - how is your ankle? is it swelling? Maybe you could suggest having the front 2in section cut out like I did so there wasno pressure on my shin bone? Anyway Sue, just hang on in there- the plaster room guys are great and Im sure they'll work out whats not right.
My heart goes out to you and I hope you can get some sleep tonight. xCAROL (Cacyhi)0 -
Thanks both. I know it's rubbing because the girl who did it forgot to put the padding in there. I won't go to A & E cos I don't trust them like I trust the Ortho casting techs. I just have to be careful until tomorrow morning. This time tomorrow I'll be fine.Sue (Cloud9)0

Aw, poor you Sue. I think you may be wise not to go to A&E though - for a start you would have to wait ages  - you know what the problem is - so please be careful today and I know you will, and get to the casting room asap tomorrow morning.
Love

Hi, That sounds like a really painful problem, as the shin does't have any flesh on in to help 'pad' it out!!!
I think if I were you, if possible wait until the proper staff, who know you are back on duty, understand your problems and how to sort them out. The docs on A&E at the weekend can be the younger, less experienced ones, I know this from a few years back when they sent me home with a laxative and I had a perforated duodenal ulcer and I had surgery the next day and a week in ICU!!! Sorry this is nothing to do with your leg or my arthritis, except that the painkillers I was on for my neck was the start, I think!
Good Luck for tomorrow, have plenty of rest today, I don't suppose you can do much anyway.... Ohhhhhhhhh
Love Sue xxxx(((((((Hug))))))0 -
Cloud9,
ooh that sounds painful.
Are your toes still pink and a good colour if not, regardless of who is on in A&E I think you should pop in to have it checked, if you have swelling inside the cast and it is too tight it could affect your circulation.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0
