Hello, Hope you are all okay and not suffering too much today.
On checking my bank balance this morning, i have had a DLA payment which means my application was obviously successful this time but I have yet to receive a letter from them with details as to what rate i have been given.
I just wondered what else being in receipt of DLA entitled me too? Do we get a winter fuel payment, etc?

As far as I know DLA is it, it does not pave the way to other benefits as one can claim it whilst still working. I think the winter fuel allowance is only paid to the over somethings, not DLA recipients. DD

I didn't necessarily just mean government benefits, more like fuel bills, fast track at Theme parks etc. Heard whisperings but not sure how true they were. It's not about the money for me,its about making life easier.

There's nothing that I am aware of - I use my DLA to make my life easier as it pays for my sports massage therapy (when needed), new crutches and other gizmos (I am now considering buying a rollator, I think that's what it's called) and it helps with the cost of petrol to get me to my hospital appointments. There is something at the top of this forum about cinema tickets and DLA which might be of interest. DD

no winter fuel payments with DLA I'm afraid..
It's meant to be for help getting around.. I get the car through motability instead of the money though. It's been a fantastic scheme for me.
I don't get anything else because I get DLA. I do use my disabled buys pass as proof for any concessions, but that's about it..

    Hope that helps

Okay, thanks guys. The reason i wanted to claim it was to help with costs. I've had to buy a bath board, crutches etc and give up work so it's just to ease the pressure off the bills a bit really. I'm not one of those grabby people, although i think thats how it may have come across, but thats not why i asked. xx :???:

I have a raised loo seat and a bath board which were provided by
Social Services (they also fitted better hand rails for the stairs). I choose to buy crutches as I can get ones that suit me better in terms of grip. I am still working after a fashion - I am self-employed but gradually grinding to a halt. DD

The DWP will send a leaflet, explaining what other benefits might be available, depending on level of award, income etc. The winter fuel payments are given to those over pension age, if the weather is minus whatever, for a week or more. I remember they did pay on one occasion, for those on long term incapacity benefit, but that was an exception to the rule.

    Hi Emma

l read this thread through and you didn't sound at all as though you were out for what you could get so dont think that

Very wise to find out what you are entitled to and Bubbles is right you should get a letter and when you do it should tell you more. For instance the higher rate mobility entitling you to a blue badge etc.

    WELL DONE!!

    Love

    Toni xx

If you get tax credits tell them what level of DLA you receive as this will get you higher payments. They only backdate for 3 months so I lost out as I forgot to tell them
Also I now qualify for a payment from my Gas/electric company because I get 'cerain benefits' mine being DLA. It will be a one off payment for £120

We tried to claim that with DLA, think it had to be a different benefit that we dint get E.

The gas and electric Tony? DLA was listed as one of the benefits and pyu also have to be under a certain level of income. I phoned mine through last week and first guy seemed to suggest we wouldn't qualify but put me through to the next stage who said I did and a payment would be made in Jan 2012. Pretty sure it was DLA that worked for me. Some companies do have different criteria's though. I'm with BG.

It is called the Warm Home Discount Scheme. You may have been refused because your income level was too high Tony with your wife working. DLA,housing benefit, council tax benefit, tax credits or attendance allowance are not counted as income in any calcuations according to BG website.
