Hip Pain Advice Please

I'm after some advice please.
My right hip is all of a sudden giving me gyp and I wondered if I've pulled a muscle or if this flaming OA has moved again. It seems to be worse when I'm moving my leg forward to take a step; the front of the hip seems to be pulling. When I'm sitting it's aching, when I go to stand up that ache gets more intense and then of course I go to move and wow! the pain/ache/pulling really gets going and the pain is now travelling down my thigh. I've got OA in all my other weight bearing joints at various levels with a right knee partial replacement.
The GP who I saw last week for x-ray results on my right knee said I have a "normal knee". Not sure how she could say that when half of it is metal and I'm getting regular pain from the replacement. I'm back on the 50mg Tramadol (instead of the slow release version) but taking more and she wouldn't refer me to a pain management clinic. I'm delighted to say that this useless GP is leaving the practice and the sooner the better from my point. Needless to say, I'll be returning to see another GP there to push for the pain management clinic referral.
Any ideas what's happening with this hip? Do you think it could be muscular or the Arther?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
Grace

    Hi,

Unfortunately i am not a doctor so am unable to say what it is..
What you describe sounds similar to what i experience with my hips..
I am waiting for my results from xrays to see what going on with me, i use crutches and sticks to get around when my hip is playing up and have been using hot water bottle constantly for 3 days now, the heat does give me some comfort, i too am on tramadol i take diclofenac too and i have been taking paracetamol to so i can take edge off pain..You need to talk about it with your doctor to get it checked out properly as it could be numerous things..
Let us know how you get on and i hope you feel better soon..

    Hi Grace
You go back to your GP and get some xrays done, my hip pain started in my knee, apparently they share a nerve, then I had pain down my legs, everywhere but the hip really, when I had the xrays they confirmed that my hips were needing to be replaced, I havent had them done yet, but will have to in the near future.
Wishing you well with everything and please let us know how you get on.
    Love
    Barbara

    Hi, thanks for your responses.
I'll ring my surgery tomorrow and ask to see one of the other GP's there and get an x-ray done. In fact I think I'm gonna ask for both hips to be screened as my left hip clicks/is noisy/aches so I know there's something in that one already, although that's not causing any pain today - most odd! I'll be radio-active at this rate as it was only mid-October I had my right knee x-rayed!
I'll let you know what happens.
    Take care, Grace.

    Sounds like a plan Grace,
If it wasn't for the lovely people on here i wouldn't have asked for Xray on my hips, but luckily for me my rheumy mentioned it before i had to ask,.
I know what you mean about the clicking. sometimes both my hips clisk when i walk with minimal pain, other days it can be just one side with excrutiating pain, today it is more in the right side working round my bum and lower back, very heavy, achy and sharp prolonged pain..but tomorrow i could wake up with no pain at all and be able to walk fine, it is very weird..

Successful GP visit this morning I'm pleased to say. He's authorised x-rays on the right hip and I'll get these done tonight. He's said I should keep the joint moving but gently and not to over-do things. Now it'll just be a case of a waiting game for the results to come in. I dread getting these in one way but I'd rather know.

    Great news Grace..
I hope you don't have to wait too long for yours, mine has been 5 weeks now and is driving me mad lol..
It's important that we know what is going on, kind of makes us feel better although it is not always good news, but at least we know eh..xx

Hi Grace, It's great that you got the x-rays quickly and will know what's going on with the hip and then the appropiate action on what to do to make you more comfortable and out of pain can be done. I know the waiting is the hardest because you want to just know whats going on. Well I hope all is sorted for you soon and try not to think about it, think of something nice!

Well, my x-ray results are in.
No significant bony damage to the right hip but there is inflammation in the hip joint itself. Pain is being put down to the inflammation and muscular damage. I can't take anti-inflammatories as I'm allergic to them so basically have got to get on with it. Interestingly though, the x-ray must have included the left hip as that's showing signs of wear and tear (i.e., arthritis) but I already knew about that side.
I've to give the right hip about a week and if it's still playing up get back to the GP when they'll try and think what else to suggest.
Better news than I expected but I thought inflammation was a part of arthritis :?: so am now slightly puzzled. Any thoughts or advice welcome as to how I can deal with this inflammation without taking anti-inflams.
Thanks for reading the post update.

Thanks for the tips. It's still not much better today so I suspect I'll be making a return trip to the GP next week. I'll then be able to ask what can be done to deal with this.
I'm used to being in pain - I think those of us with any kind of arthritis get used to that, but when it's yet another joint joining in the party it gets difficult to cope with psychologically.
Hey ho, I'll get there and there's lots of people worse off than I am.
PMA - positive mental attitude - is the key thing I've found.
Traveluvie - I'd chase your results if I were you; if your surgery say they haven't got them yet get them to ring your Hospital and find out what's going on. Results shouldn't take that long to come through surely?
Hope you're all having a reasonable day.
    Take care,
    Grace.

Rang 2 weeks ago and rheumy secretary said it is in the paperwork for rheumy to write up the report, the other reason for delay i think is they have moved from one hospital to another so i am giving them a bit of lee way, if not heard anything by next week i will be back on the phone..x
