I am currently reapplying for a new blue badge as my current one runs out 30th Nov. One part of the form asks if you are in receipt of higher mobility component of DLA which I am. Are you still expected to fill out all the other medical questions, such as how far can you walk etc or does the HR DLA(mobility) mean you qualify for the badge without having to give any further details?
It doesn't say move on to part x if you tick that you are in receipt of DLA HR Mob but says your claim will be dealt with within 3 weeks.
Just wondered...

Hi, I am unsure about that, maybe you should write what you did on your dla form??
I would have thought the dla info would be enough but they keep changing the rules, maybe just give them a quick ring and check.

My local authority - Kent - insist on having sight of your DLA entitlement letter. That needs to be new. For example if your last DLA entitlement letter is 2 yrs old and you sent that to KCC they'd only do the badge for 1 year irrespective of whether you've got DLA on an indefinite basis.
I had to ring the DWP in Blackpool and explain that as part of my Blue Badge renewal my issuing authority wanted an up to date letter showing my entitlement. The DWP were brilliant and got that to me within days which I then supplied to KCC's Blue Badge team. Within a week I'd got the badge. I sent everything off Recorded Delivery and tracked it on line so they couldn't try to pretend that it hadn't been received.
The last time I had to re-apply for my BB when I said "yes" to the DLA I then skipped to a certain part of the form but I believe it's been changed since then and of course different authorities may well take widly different approached.
Hope this helps and good luck with your application.

I fill in everything and photocopy the form for my records. Tell 'em everything and base it on a bad day rather than a good one. DD

thanks all. My current award is 13 months old so hope that will do. I will have to copy the required info from my DLA forms but don't want to go hunting for all the notes if that part of the form doesn't need to be filled in so I will check with them first. Thanks for the reminder to copy everything. OH will deliver by hand.

Thanks Debs. That was helpful info. Is says I won't need a medical assessment but doesn't say whether I should fill out all the questions. I'd have thought not if HR mob DLA qualifies for the badge.
I'm in Hillingdon council and read that they are clamping down on giving out blue badges. Waiting for a THR does not qualify you for a badge, but I can remember terrible mobility problems associated with my hip pre op.

I'm going to call them tomorrow when I'm hopefully more awake.

    Hi Elizabeth,
Just to say, I phoned Hillingdon council in June to apply for a blue badge, I had a letter from my GP stating my PA and a list of my medication and that's all they required, I didn't have DLA at the time either.
They really were very friendly so do give them a call.

Hi Elizabeth, you do qualify for a Blue Badge if you are in receipt of higher rate mobility. I remember I did mine through a video link at the local library, it was so easy, never knew there were such wonders.

I had to put the DLA award letter into the copier, whilst talking to the lady at the other end, she then took a photo ID, with the camera that was mounted on the computer, even the desk went up and down so that you were comfortable if you were in a wheelchair.

I think they are using this system quite a lot now, not sure if they do in your area. I think the longest they run the new badge for is 3 years at a time. xx Bubbles

They have confirmed that I don't need to fill out part D. It would be nice if they made that clear on the form though. for example they could print 'you do not need to fill in this part if you ticked yes to any question on part B'. I bet loads of people fill that part in when they don't have to.

Thanks Bubbles, that was nice and easy for you and so it should be.
