I am week two with MX no side effects this week but the pain is getting unbearable, not only in my hands but all over the place, what drugs are available for the pain?? I had a scan of my hands yesterday and was told there is a lot of inflammation and the doctor who did the scan said he needs to speak to my consultant about it. :?:

Hi Muffy,
Sorry to hear about your pain.
Are you on any anti inflams or any pain dullers??Clare xx0 -
Meth can take up to twelve weeks to get into the system and start helping but the one thing it is not is a pain duller. You can take all sorts of pain relief alongside the meth, but if you have nothing available to you at the moment then you do need to see your GP and seek his advice as to what will help you the best. Take care, good luck and let us know how you get on. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi, I'm sorry you are having so much pain, I don't have the same as you, but I think, as has been said, you do need to talk to your Doc about pain relief, 12 weeks is a long time when you'r in such pain. Take care, love Sue xxxx0

Sorry can't help, but just wanted to send some hugs(((((X))))) and hope you feel better soon..
A trip to doctor sounds like the best option if you still continue to be in pain..xxxTracyxx0 -

Poor you Muffy. I know Prednisolone or other cortosteroids are often used to bridge the gap before DMARDs kick in - have you been offered this I wonder?
I get a lot of pain in my hands too and take amitriptyline 10/20mgs, codeine 15mgs and paracetamol (1-2) at night - plus I'm prescribed 3 x ibuprofen 400mgs per day. Oral pred seems to be working after 4 days of not working so would be worth a try while you wait for Methotrexate to do it's job?
Good luck hope you find something that works soon.

Hi Muffy
l am so sorry you are suffering
there are loads of painkillers out there and some people get prescribed some oral steroids or a depot jab to tide them over while the mtx kicks in.
The disease modifying drug you are on is intended in time to control the disease so you will obvioulsy have less pain, but for now tis back to the GP for some help. If you can't get in straight away see a pharmacist, they can advise what painkillers you can buy over the counter to help a bit while you wait.
Most of us take a painkiller like paracetamol/co-codamols together with an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen/naproxen etc.
Please do let us know how you get on
Love

Thank you all for your input, unfortunately I cannot take any form of anti-inflammatory drugs due to other medication I have to take, as a lot of you say a GP appointment seems to be the answer.
