Knees are playing up, bones are rubbing together and cannot bear to touch knee caps. GP going to refer me to see a Rheumatologist. I wonder whether I can buy a support for my knees and where, got the impression they are going to give up any time. It is not painful but all the grinding and crackling are uncomfortable. At what stage are you a candidate for replacement knee?

I used to use neoprene supports from my local chemist (they cost about £7) but I don't now as they make the muscles lazy and could exacerbate the problems. As for being a candidate, I expect that views on that vary from ortho consultant to ortho consultant, and the amount of money sloshing around the PCT for such things. Both my knees are two-thirds bone on bone but I was turned down for being too young (52, rubbish) and too fat (just over 15 stone, reasonable). I was told to lose three stone and go back when I am 55. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Sorry to you are having problems.
As for being a candidate it depends on your consultant really. I was 43 and in agony and one leg was in the vulgas position but was told by the consultant here on the Isle of Wight I was far too young and if I was in pain go get a steriod injection from the rhuemy. I could have slapped him. I got 2nd opinion and he said he would do a synovectomy which he did and it was great for about 6 months.Anyway I changed rhuematologist and went to Bath. Totally different attitute the surgeon saw me and said I needed a new knee and I needed it now or I would be in a wheelchair by the end of the year. Within 8 months he had replacd them both. Bliss!
So, I hope your Health authority has the Bath attitute.
I was given knee supports by the OT. They do help a bit.
    Good luck,
    Anita.

I use a knee support occasionally, more so if my knees is throbbing and i have to venture out..Can't remember what mine is called but it has a hole in it where knee cap is, and it is a great support and helps with pain..
Might be worth asking GP if they have any ideas ..
    Hope you get things sorted..

    Ooh Marie

if l were you I'd take no risks with that an ask teh GP to refer you for something to help with those knees. Physio/OT not sure which.

Maybe you could try some tubigrip in the meantime if you feel you need to??? Save abit of cash?
