Sadly, there never were very many blokes on here anyway, so they are missed when they disappear. I hope that the ones who are still around will remain and continue posting anyway. It makes for a much more lively and fun forum to have both male and female perspectives on things.

I'm always very interested to read the opinions and views of other people even if I don't always agree with them. It should be possible to discuss controversial topics without breaking the site rules, so I don't think anyone should stop posting for fear of being banned. We are all adults, so we should be able to engage in discussion responsibly.

I've always thoroughly enjoyed reading anyone's rants ( especially Rehab's and Mel's ) so long may they continue.

And what would you like for Xmas Joan?
Please do not mention world peace, far too contraversial

I would like a matching set of marmite spoons if anyone is interested

I would just like you to keep being you, Len, and to continue posting and making me smile

BTW, Marmite is manufactured just down the road from me, so I'll get the spoons for you if you promise not to disappear.

Branston? By the teaspooon from the jar - its the only way.

I fear the days of debates and rants may be gone as there would appear to be an element that is far too ready to run to the mods instead of considering that there may be others in the world who dare to have a different opinion to them. AC is a public forum (oh wake up DD, aren't they all? ) so yes, there have to be rules about language, content, usage etc but people do seem to be increasingly unable to distinguish about what is suitable for public comment and what is not. A forum is a place for conversation and debate. If you can't handle that then don't post but surely it is only equitable to have the courtesy to allow others who can the chance so to do. I for one am pleased that we all think so differently 'cos if we all thought the same the world would be a very dull place (but obviously not if you all thought the same as me, that would be fine). DD

Branston pickle and Marmite were both invented at Burton-on-Trent, only a few miles from where I live. That combined with the aromas of the beer, and coffee from the nearby Nescafe factory, makes for an interesting mixture.

That's what we need on this site; an interesting mixture of opinions and people.

While the process is secret, the general method for making yeast extract on a commercial scale is to add salt to a suspension of yeast, making the solution hypertonic, which leads to the cells shrivelling up; this triggers "autolysis", in which the yeast self-destructs. The dying yeast cells are then heated to complete their breakdown, and since yeast cells have thick hull walls which would detract from the smoothness of the end product, the husks are sieved out.

There you go :!: You didn't know you were eating a hypertonic solution of shrivelled-up self-destructing cells, did you :?:
