GP have different words for OA I have it and one GP refers to it as wear and tear also I got osteoporosis another GP say that they OA is referred from pain from it but there again another GP says that you do not get pain with osteoporosis, how confusing the terminology is from medical professionals.
I know I have lots of pain and it is not getting better regardless what GP's call the conditions, I know it is pain that I am in most of the time. :!: :!: :!:

Hope all goes well with your consulation with your GP Margaret

Why don't you ask your gp what you have asked us?

"I have been browsing the net and notice that many of my symptoms match those of both AS and Fibro. Can these conditions be related to OA?

To back up your question it would be wise to have a list of your symptoms which you feel match those of AS and Fibro. See what she says.

OA is called the 'wear and tear' arthritis as that is one explanantion of its causation: it can result after an accident, trauma to a joint or ageing. The other forms, eg RA, PA and AS are caused by an over-active immune system - hence the immuno-suppressant meds that some take. DD

I know it's incredibly hard to diagnose and distinguish between these various conditions a lot of the time but when we have something as painful as arthritis to live with day in day out we should be allowed to tell doctors what our theories are and be listened to and respected. We are the ones living with the symptoms and coping or failing to cope with them after all.

In an age where a click of the mouse allows us to explore the 200 different types of Arther and ways each condition might be diagnosed online most of us will obviously be doing just that. I think specialists should assume that the patient/doctor relationship is more of a partnership because of ready access to info via technology. Your doctor sounds impressive on this front and I would go for it with her re the AS and Fibro. I know some GPs are still quite sceptical of diagnosing Fibro however so good luck hope yours is one of the enlightened!

    Hi Margaret

Isn't there a blood test for AS which can help???

Also l would have thought images would help - MRIs xrays.

Fibro is a different kettle of fish for sure.....

Very difficult but l have heard they are doing ressearch into this one and there are tests they do do - trigger spots etc. Not easy though

    Love

Hi for Fibro there is a new , well 2010, diagnostic test that is supposed to be used in conjunction with the trigger test as the trigger test is not always accurate.
It is on www.ukfibromyalgia.com site if this will help.

Hi I have Fibromyalgia along with Osteoprosis. They do seem to go side by side but you need to sit down with a pad and pen and write down all the questions you have and take them to the doctor's appt. Amanda/bubadog
