Flares...

Hi my friends,
After an upsetting time recently, I am flaring badly, my ankle was like a balloon starting 3 days ago and this morning it is so swollen and sore I know I will be in Betsy the wheelchair again.
The infection in my shoulder has finally begun to heal, although I am left with dry flaky skin around it and judging my the colour of it, it does look very like Psoriasis, I'm not surprised as the psoriasis is already breaking out on the back of my neck, that was its favourite 'hang out' since before I began methotrexate, and as I'm still off the metho and enbrel due to being on anti biotics for the shoulder, both the psoriasis and Arthritis are making their bid for freedom.
Does anyone know of an oil I can use on the scar? without upsetting the psoriasis? I just want to stop the itch and the scar getting worse as I have another 5 days of anti biotics, so no anti TNF or metho till the end of next week.
Many thanks for all the many pm's, texts and emails I have received recently, it has given me the strength to carry on, and I will be forever grateful to you all.

    Hi Poppy

    that sounds nasty :???:

Some folks use that b*o oil dont they and others rub arnica gel in, but l have no idea how they would interact with the psoriasis :???:

You know the E45 type stuffs and oilatums....could you apply them anyway?? the only reason l say is l think that any 'massage' to the affected area can help scars to heal.

If in doubt maybe the pharmacist could advise??

    love

Hi Poppy, my psoriasis is rampant too.

I am aware of bio oil, and have used it but am allergic to e45 so just remember your skin may well act differently to mine.

Hope you get relief from it somehow.

    Hi Poppy

sorry things are all erupting at the moment. I was watching the food hosptal on tuesday on chanel 4 at 8pm and next week one of the topics they are covering is the skin condition psoriosis.
Perhaps it could be informative for you. (although I know you will know quite alot already)

As for the scar, I am not sure, I was going to suggest bio oil, but I don't know how it would affect your psoriosis, perhaps .....just use e45.

    Good morning Poppy

Aw, you are in the wars and I am sorry to hear that. However it is good news that your shoulder is beginning to heal well after the infection. Those horrid little germs always delay the healing don't they? These things are sent to try us. What about plain old vaseline massaged into the scar? Be gentle though.

What to do about the ankle? I suppose elevation is good. Do you "ice" your ankle?

I hope you are able to take it easy some of the day and your trusted friend, Betsy, will help I am sure.:smile:

    Love

    Morning Poppy,

Good to hear your are finally on the mend from your shoulder op, no more one armed bandit lol..
Regarding the itch i would of used bio as the others have suggested but not sure how it would affect you, i would ring and ask the paharmacist and see what they suggest just to be on the safe side as you do not want to aggravate the situation..
Have applied ice on your ankle to reduce swelling?, thast what i do when it flares and keep it elevated but also do some small movements so it doesn't get too stiff..I reckon Betsy would be a good option today , give you some rest..
Take care luvie and i hope you feel better soon..xx

Thankyou everyone for your replies, I have been using aqueous cream, but it's not doing a lot unfortunately.
I'm unable to get out of bed today, so hubby will ask for bio oil or something else that the chemist may suggest. I'll let you kniw how I get on.
Huge thanks to you all Xxx

    Hi Poppy,

So sorry to hear your are unwell sound awful.
I know all about infections so I really do sympathise.
With regards oil, Bio Oil is very good for scars.
For very dry skin I use Simple Intense moisture cream it's much thicker than the normal one.
You could also wash with Acquiesce cream.(not sure if I spelt it right!)
Take care hope you feel better soon.

I used Johnson's Baby Oil with Aloe Vera on my scar. Any oil will do what bio-oil does - olive oil is good too, and skin-soothing. I dislike E45 as that makes me itch. Aqueous cream is good for washing and moisturising but possibly too thick for scar application - whatever you use for that has to be very gently stroked in, not rubbed. My left elbow is psoriatic at the moment, and I have little patches here and there all over the place: stress-related methinks after Ma's visit. Take care my lovely. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I've no advice re oil, scars and psoriasis, Poppy, but I think you have strength in spades with or without our help. You have coped, cheerfully, with an incredible - and varied - amount of ills this last 12 months or so and still found it in you to support others. I have everything crossed that, when the return to the 'real' meds comes, you will be able to relegate Betsy to the garage for just special occasions.
