Totally messed up the first thread lol..

I was looking through my notes from rheumy today and noticed i have tested positive in an ASOT blood test...Do not recall doctor talking this over with me so am now intrigued??
Quite complicated when i read it on WIKI

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-streptolysin_O

Just wondered if anyone was familar with this, if not don't worry, i will be asking GP when i see her..
Thanks

I noticed it is used to help diagnose various things and what intrigued me was it said rheumatoid arthritis and mentioned strep bacteria..I had strep Aor B (can't remember) after having my 2nd child and was very close to the pearly gates :| but with a long stay in hospital i recovered,..
Has made me think a few things so will be writing a list of questions to be asking GP...she gonna love me..

    hi Tracy,

it might be a good thing you know.... i think they should have you on antibiotics and that might well help so much! ]

when do you see the gp> one thing i wonder is why they haven't got you on the antibots now....

it could help if they gave you some.. it does mine and every time i get a cat or dog bite they put me on it and i feel mush better for some reason.

will be in your pocket and will poke you if you don;t ask the gp about it  Hugs and some cheesecake Cris xx

This test was done just under a yr go and nothing has been done, if it wasn't for me looking through paperwork yesterday i wouldn't have noticed lol..Maybe they thought it wasn't necessary to act on it?? not sure, but i am not a doctor so what do i know lol..

I'm not a medical expert but I believe the positive ASOT test means they found strep antibodies, ie you had a strep infection some time in the past few weeks or months.

I have been tested for it too because I have reactive arthritis that is triggered by strep infections, amongst other things. I believe the test is only useful if it is repeated at intervals to see if the antibody levels are going up or down. It doesn't necessarily mean you have a current infection and if the numbers were low they wouldn't need to do anything about it.

As I said I'm not a doctor or nurse, but I have read up quite a lot about it and that's how I understand it.
