I give in I need to go back to the doctor and start again
Been off Methotrexate for 8 Months now - It did work but I'm not sure what's worst feeling sick all the time or Joint pain etc.
I've been pretending to my self - 'My hands aren't killing me', 'I'm not completely wiped out' ......

Hopefully I will get something new - Sulfasalzin - Didn't do anything, Methotrexate - made me feel sick - but feeling like I've been run over by a bus that gave me the flu is not something I want to continue feeling

Good decision, Martyn. No one can fight this stuff on will power alone.

Did you have tablet or injected meth before? (Injected gives fewer side effects.) With folic acid to minimise said side-effects?

There's plenty more stuff out there. I hope this time you find you 'perfect match'. Do let us know how you get on.

Oh Martyn, I think I remember you - you were fighting re-starting the meth I think? Things had eased for you then worsened again. I know it's hard, I'm doing my own 'giving in' at the moment as I have had to up the steroids (whilst trying to come off them) but I am trying to view it as a positive, that it means I will be feeling/coping better and I hope the sulph does that for you, I really do. I wish you well. DD

Wishin g you well for your appt. I had a massive reaction to sulp so am wondering whats next for me, and trying (unsuccessfully) to put the decision off.

I hope you get something that suits you.

    Hi Martyn,

Sorry to hear about your problems. When you were on meth did you try splitting the dose? I have the same problem with sickness and the rheumy told me it's ok to take it on consecutive days. I'm on 20mg so take 10 on Tuesday and 10 Wednesday and I haven't had a problem since and the tiredness and feeling wiped out isn't so bad, also I take it in the evening, so the tiredness is over by the morning, if that makes sense. Perhaps if nothing else works you could try meth again and do this. I can't tolerate, sulph, leflunomide or hydroxy and I'm not allowed to try anti-TNF because of lung condition so I'm stuck with meth.
Hope you get something sorted soon, let us know how you get on,

    Sue x

I've just re-read your post and realise I got the wrong end of the stick: you've tried sulph, I thought you meant the sulph would be the new thing, I apologise. This is a strong disease and as such it needs strong meds to fight it - what about injected meth? As that by-passes the digestion the nausea can be greatly reduced - if not eradicated. I do my own injections, they are very straightforward. Do let us know how you get on on Monday. DD

Hi, not so good you are feeling bad again and was having probs before on the meth but I found taking mine at night made me feel sick all the next day so if I took it in the morning after breakfast I felt fine. I know another friend who could not tolerate the tablets but has had a new lease of life on the injections so might be worth trying that way. I have been on sulph and it stopped working then put on leflonamide and that never worked the the meth added to it and still not much then the meth increased to 20mg and it started working and I came off the leflonamide but had a bad flare up and got put back on the leflonamide which I aint happy about as it never worked last time so how is it gonna work now but doc also gave me pain patches and they are working as I don't have pain in joints now and can manage to do more for myself. Good luck with getting sorted and hope you get relief soon from all you pains.

Martyn. I used to feel like you. What was the point of a bit less pain for 2 days of horror? But I asked for some anti-sickness pills and they have worked for me. I get the sickness once every 4 months now. So not completely gone but so much better than before.

NoteI had to ask for them even though they'd known I was suffering so badly and swapping to MTX injections made no difference.

The very best of luck to you tomorrow, Martyn, I hope he can help you. Please let us know how you get on, yes? You are not 'giving' in, you are doing the right thing. Life with any form of arthritis is tough but if you can find the right combination of meds to help then the toughness is eased somewhat - or at least it should be. I wish you well. DD
