Symbolic names

My daughter teaches at an infant school, and she has noticed a growing trend for parents to give their children unusual, rather symbolic names. This year, she's teaching a Storm, a Pheonix, and a River. Other symbloic names in the school include Diamond, Trinity, India, and Devon.

If you were to give yourself a symbolic name, what would it be :?: Arthur is banned

What gets into these parents? I must admit it's a trend that baffles me, I would hate to have a name that reflects my parents appalling lack of taste. Life is tough enough without being called Sky or Chardonnay, Rainbow, Apple etc

I have a brain like fudge at the moment so I cannot think of one for me but if I do I'll let you know! DD

Why would anyone want to call their child Storm :?: I think it's asking for trouble as they might try to live up to their name and develop a stormy personality  Serene might be a better idea

Fudge sounds like a suitable name for you, DD

Instead of parents calling their children, Chanel, Dior, and other similar designer names, and as the economy being as it is, parents now have the option of other names to reflect our current times.

Matalan, Poundland, and Shoe Zone being just a few
